DCSD to provide holiday food services during winter break

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA – DeKalb County School Nutrition Services (SNS) has selected Flat Shoals Elementary School and Stoneview Elementary School as host sites for the 2019 Meal Service Program on December 26-27, 2019. The Meal Service Program was piloted last year and was responsible for feeding at least 400 students and parents per day.

The Meal Service Program’s inception generated after an anonymous donation was gifted to School Nutrition Services. In an effort to combat food insecurity in DeKalb County, SNS faculty/staff and other community organizations worked together to prepare chef-inspired meals, provide vision clinic services and prepackaged grocery bags for families.

The 2019 Meal Service Program will feature breakfast and lunch chef-inspired menus and plans to exceed last year’s level of success. This year’s program was made possible through generous donations throughout the SY ‘19-’20.

These services will be free of charge to all children in the DeKalb County community. In addition, families are invited to take part in nutrition education training and interactive activities.

SNS’s aim is to build community with DeKalb County residents, while bridging the gap of food insecurity during the holidays.
