A Historic Salute to Our Future Service Members at District’s Inaugural Military Student Swearing-In Ceremony
Miller Grove High School to Host 200 Students Who Pledged Service in the U.S. Armed Forces
(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA)- The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is pleased to announce its inaugural Military Student Swearing-In Ceremony, recognizing approximately 200 remarkable scholars who have pledged to serve in the United States Armed Forces (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, or Space Force). This special celebratory event will take place on Thursday, April 24, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Miller Grove High School, 2645 DeKalb Medical Parkway in Lithonia.
“We are incredibly proud of these students who have chosen to serve our nation, and we fully support them as they begin this significant chapter in their lives,” said DCSD Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton. “This ceremony reflects our commitment to ensuring that every graduate leaves DeKalb County equipped with the skills, competencies, and qualities outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate, along with a clear plan for their future, whether that path involves military enlistment, enrollment in further education, employment, or entrepreneurship.”
In addition to the District’s focus on preparing graduates with clear pathways for postsecondary options and overall life readiness, this event highlights the strong relationship between the communities and schools. Families, District officials, educators, school staff, business partners, community leaders, and many others are expected to attend, supporting these future service members and celebrating the pride, responsibility, and patriotism they represent.
Media representatives are encouraged to attend this ceremony. Interviews will be available upon request.
