Austin Elementary’s Sarv Dharavane Shines Bright with a Third-Place Finish at the Scripps National Spelling Bee

The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is bursting with pride as we celebrate Austin Elementary School fifth-grader, Sarv Dharavane, for his incredible third-place finish in the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships!

At just 11 years old, Sarv wowed the nation, spelling his way through 19 intense rounds of fierce competition before the word “eserine” brought his impressive run to an end. But he didn’t leave empty-handed—Sarv took home a cash prize and the admiration of our entire community!

This was Sarv’s second consecutive year competing at the national level. After finishing tied for 22nd last year, he returned stronger than ever, proving that hard work and perseverance pay off. He claimed his second straight Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee championship earlier this year.

The 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee occurred in National Harbor, Maryland, where 242 top spellers from across the country came together to battle it out for the ultimate spelling title—and Sarv rose to the very top!

Congratulations, Sarv! You’ve made Austin Elementary, DCSD, and all of Georgia proud.
