Three Hearings Scheduled for Public Input on May 30, June 2, and June 9

(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA)- The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is moving to adopt a 2025 millage rate of 22.78 mills, a tenth of a mill lower than last year, yet 2.82 percent above the rollback level of 22.155 mills required to offset rising property values. Therefore, Georgia law classifies the change as a tax increase, even though the millage rate has declined.

The proposed tax increase would raise the millage rate to 22.78 mills, which is an addition of 0.625 mills. If the increase does not go through, the millage rate will stay at 22.155 mills. For a home worth $400,000, this tax increase would add about $109.38 to the bill. For non-homestead property valued at $700,000, the increase would be around $156.25.

Because Georgia taxes property on 40 percent of market value, the dollar impact remains modest whileensuring reliable funding for safe facilities, competitive teacher pay, and dependable student transportation, which are investments that support local property values and economic growth.
