Recruitment and Retention Incentives FY22 (for Current Employees)

DeKalb County School District Board of Education provides long-term disability insurance. Additionally, the District offers optional flexible benefits for which the employee pays part or all of the costs. The Flexible Benefits include dependent coverage, dental insurance, health insurance, vision insurance, short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
Personal Sick Leave
Employees earn 1.25 sick days per month and may accumulate up to 190 days. Three days each year are usable for personal or professional leave, and three days each year may be used for bereavement or religious leave.
Sick Leave Bank
The sick leave bank is voluntary and provides protection to an eligible employee who must be absent from duty due to a catastrophic personal health condition and who has exhausted all accumulated personal sick leave.
Workers Compensation-Employees may be entitled to worker’s compensation benefits if injured on the job. The injury must arise out of and in the course of employment. The injured employee must provide notice, either in person or in writing, of the injury immediately, but not later than 30 days after the accident, to the employee’s immediate supervisor. Failure to do so may result in the loss of benefits. The injured employee may select a medical care provider from the panel of approved physicians. Only those providers listed are authorized to provide medical care for a work-related injury
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
The District fully complies with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) as adopted by the U. S. Congress on February 5, 1993. Employees who have been employed by the District for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours for the District in the previous 12-month period, are eligible to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave.
American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Employees, who have a physical or mental disability, or a record of such a disability, maybe offered a workplace modification or adjustment (504 Plan). The accommodation may enable the employee to perform the essential functions of his or her position. Details such as the length of a continuous leave, the unpredictability and frequency of intermittent absences, the degree or lack of certainty of the employee’s return to work date, etc., require a case-by-case analysis.
