Our Focus

Strengthening Literacy

Literacy is the foundation for every student’s learning and future success. When a child can read well, they can explore new ideas, solve problems, engage fully in every subject, and build the confidence to pursue their dreams. Yet too many students in DeKalb County are at risk of falling behind early. These gaps can have lasting effects, limiting opportunities in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Our Goal: To ensure students don’t just decode words, they read fluently, comprehend deeply, and engage confidently in all areas of learning.

Supporting Wellness

A child’s ability to learn is closely tied to their emotional and mental well-being. When students feel safe, supported, and understood, they are more focused in class, more resilient in the face of challenges, and more engaged in school and life. In DeKalb, supporting mental health means providing counseling, social-emotional learning, and programs that help every student feel valued and capable.

Our Goal: To ensure students have the tools and guidance to manage stress, build resilience, and thrive academically and socially.

Empowering Educators

Exceptional teachers are the most powerful force in a student’s education. Students assigned to highly effective teachers year after year make significantly gains in reading, math, and social-emotional growth. When educators are well‑supported, trained, and empowered, they inspire curiosity, foster confidence, and open doors to lifelong opportunity. Yet schools across the country face teacher shortages and challenges in professional development. When we invest in teacher training, resources, and recognition we empower educators to innovate we help every learner reach their full potential.

Our Goal: To ensure every classroom in DeKalb is led by an educator who makes a lasting difference, setting students on a path to lifelong success.
