The Department of Access and Opportunity is dedicated to creating a learning environment where all students thrive. We strive to dismantle systemic barriers and ensure equitable access to high-quality education for every student, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, or other individual characteristics.

Athletics:
The Department of athletics offers a strong athletic program that plays a key role in providing students with a well-rounded high school experience. It balances academics with physical activity, helping students develop both mental and physical skills.

School Choice

School Innovation:
The Department of School Innovation catalyzes systemic change by facilitating community-responsive school design processes that accelerate continuous improvement—leading to measurable impact on DCSD students. The department includes the following function areas: charter schools, school governance, and district flexibility.

Student Assignment:
The Department of Student Assignment plays a pivotal role in advancing equity within our district by ensuring that all students have fair and inclusive access to educational opportunities. By thoughtfully managing school choice, programming, placement, and student assignments, we aim to eliminate barriers and address disparities. Our work within the Division of Access and Opportunity, reinforces our commitment to creating an equitable education system where every student, regardless of their background, can thrive.

Student Mentorship and Partnerships:
The Department of Student Mentorship & Partnerships (SMP) is dedicated to fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of students through meaningful connections and strategic collaborations. By implementing programs such as the DCSD Mentoring Framework, Leader in Me, FACE Advocates, and community and corporate partnerships, SMP empowers students to thrive as confident, compassionate leaders. The department creates a nurturing and inclusive environment, ensuring every student has the support and resources needed to succeed and shape a better future.
