Donation helps Indian Creek Elementary School celebrate the holidays.

More than 1,160 students at Indian Creek Elementary received a gift on December 20, in celebration of the holiday season.

Every student received a gift bag and their pick of a single gift courtesy of The Love of Giving, Inc., a nonprofit spearheaded by founder and executive director Katherine Miller.

“I love putting smiles on kids’ faces,” Miller said. “For some of them, this is all they’re going to get. I want to put a smile on their face and make sure they have a good Christmas like any other kid. When people find out what we’re doing and who the gifts are for, they just start donating. Who wouldn’t give to children and kids? Everyone wants kids to be happy-I love it. It’s my life.”

Miller said she has been collecting gifts for the Dec. 20 occasion since the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. She said the organization has contacted likeminded businesses and individuals who share The Love of Giving’s mission of helping children. Miller was joined at the giveaway event by more than 30 volunteers.

The Love of Giving was able to donate approximately 500 presents last year. In August, the nonprofit also donated school supplies to Indian Creek’s entire student body.
