Region champs Dunwoody and Stone Mountain along with region runners-up Columbia and Lithonia hit the mats today (Friday, Jan. 17) in the first round of the Georgia High School Association’s state wrestling team duals at four sites around the state.

The Lithonia Bulldogs are scheduled to hit the mats at 2:00 pm at Ola High School as they take on Central-Carroll in the opening round of the Class 4A State Duals Championships. Lithonia earned the state bid wrestling to the Region 5-4A finals before falling to St. Pius by a score of 58-18.

Region 5-3A champion Stone Mountain travels to Troup County High School for a 4:00 pm match against Heritage-Catoosa in their bid for a state title over the next two days. Stone Mountain knocked off Luella 42-33 in the Region 5-3A championship final.

Columbia has the longest trip of the four teams as the Eagles travel to Columbus High School for the Class 2A State Duals to take on Rockmart at 4:00 pm. Columbia wrestled its way into a state tournament bid by reaching the Region 5-2A championship round before dropped a hard-fought match to Lovett.

Dunwoody has the latest start of the day as the Wildcats travel to Lassiter High School for a 5:00 pm start time to face off with Alexander in the first round of the Class 5A State Duals. The Wildcats earned their state bid with a thrilling 38-37 victory over Woodward Academy in the Region 4-5A championship.

The first round of wrestle backs is scheduled for 9:00 am on Saturday at all sites.
