The back-to-back state champions Southwest DeKalb Panthers track team will be some of the honorees being recognized by District 84 State Representative Omari Crawford on Thursday, May 30 at the DCSD AIC Building from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

District 84 Georgia State Representative Omari Crawford is set to honor the over 100 DeKalb County Schools state track participants on Thursday, May 30 at the DeKalb County School District’s AIC Building from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Crawford, a former Southwest DeKalb track star, state champion (800-meter run) and DeKalb County Championships two-time winner in the 800, was part of the continuing rich track history in DeKalb County that includes 82 team state champions (50 boys, 32 girls).

The ceremony will also recognize the various coaches who took athletes to the 2023 GHSA State Track Championships where DeKalb brought home 45 medals (17 gold, 15 silver, 13 bronze) and set five state records.

The season concluded with Southwest DeKalb claiming a second consecutive boys’ state title (Class 4A boys), runners-up finishes by Tucker (boys 5A) and Druid Hills (girls Class 4A) and five other Top Five team finishes.

The 2023 DCSD Boys’ and Girls’ All-District Awards will be announced during the ceremony

Former Olympians and DeKalb County Schools Alums Terrence Trammell (SW DeKalb) and Dwight Phillips (Tucker) will serve as guest speakers at the event.
