Trailing 2-1 going into the top of the sixth, the Dunwoody Wildcats rallied for three runs to get past Lakeside in a 4-3 Region 4-6A victory as darkness brought the game to an end in the top of the seventh at Lakeside.

Brand Lawson opened with an infield single to the second base bag on a slow roller to get the Wildcats (2-10, 1-3) going in the big sixth inning.

Peter Ledoyen drew a walk to put two on with no outs for Cooper Kuriger. Kuriger, who hit a solo homer in the first, hit a bloop single into right field that skipped past the Lakeside outfielder to score Lawson to knot the game at 2-2 with runners on second and third and nobody out.

Lakeside pitcher got a strikeout to bring up pinch hitter Jayden Mock who hit a liner to center field that would turn into a sacrifice fly as Lakeside center fielder Kei Takeuchi made a diving catch for the out to prevent both runners from scoring.

A wild pitch allowed Kuriger to score from third to put the Wildcats up 4-2. Lakeside’s Nitin Rao came on with two out in the inning to get the final out.

The Vikings’ Giovanny Rios opened the bottom of the sixth with a double to left-center field. Two batters later John Roath hit a one-out single into right field to plate Rios and draw the Vikings within 4-3.

Dunwoody reliever Connor Smith got a strikeout and Dunwoody catcher Ledoyen threw out Roath trying to steal to end the inning.

The Wildcats got a runner on in the top of the seventh and with two outs the umpires called the game due to darkness giving Dunwoody the win.

Dunwoody opened the game with a one-out, solo homer in the top of the first inning by Kuriger to take an early 1-0 lead. Lakeside (6-5, 3-1) had runners at second and third with one out when Rios grounded to the right side to score Takeuchi who had walked to start the inning and knotted the game at 1-1.

The game remained 1-1 until the bottom of the third when Rios lofted a deep fly ball to center to score Jack Albright who had doubled to begin the inning. Dunwoody took the lead into the sixth inning.

Kuriger led Dunwoody at the plate going 2-3 with the homerun and sacrifice fly. Jayden Mosely was 2-2 for Lakeside and Rios was 1-2 with a double and two RBI.
