Three DeKalb County junior varsity basketball squads advanced into the quarterfinals with victories on Wednesday night to open the 2023 DCSD Junior Varsity Basketball County Championships.

The only girls game featured a 35-28 win by No. 5 seed Miller Grove (4-7) over No. 4 seeded Dunwoody (6-5). Miller Grove advances to Saturday’s quarterfinals at No. 1 seed Arabia Mountain (10-0) at 10:00 am.

On the boys’ side No. 4 seed Druid Hills (7-4) slipped past Martin Luther King Jr. (5-6) 49-47. The Red Devils travel to take on No. 1 seed Southwest DeKalb (10-) at 11:30 am on Saturday.

The No. 4 seeded Lithonia Bulldogs (8-3) moved on to the quarterfinals with a 43-28 win over No. 5 seed Stephenson (6-5). Lithonia goes to No. 1 seed Tucker (9-1) on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

The other girls’ quarterfinals set for 10:00 am have No. 2 Chamblee (9-1) at No. 3 Columbia (7-3), No. 1 seed Southwest DeKalb (10-0) at home against No. 5 seed Lithonia (5-4-1) and No. 2 seed Stephenson (7-3) hosting No. 3 seed Lakeside (5-5).

Two more boys’ quarterfinals include 11:30 am starts for No. 2 seed Arabia Mountain (9-1) hosting No. 3 seed Miller Grove (6-4) and No. 2 seed Columbia (9-1) at home against No. 3 seed Chamblee (8-2).
