Last Saturday was the first of three straight non-region games for middle school basketball to end the regular season.

Region play concluded last Wednesday and DeKalb middle school basketball teams matched up in non-region action on Saturday with a split between the Region 1 and Region participants.

BOYS RECAPS
Redan 42, Cedar Grove 36
Redan (10-1), the Region 1 leader, knocked off Region 2 No. 4 Cedar Grove (7-4) 42-36 to chalk up a win for the Region 1 boys. Tristan Mitchell scored 22 points and added 5 assists to lead Redan. Amare Medhin knocked down 15 points for Redan in the win.

Chapel Hill 52, Lithonia 32
The Chapel Hill Panthers (9-2) are the No. 2 team in Region 1 and notched a 52-32 victory over the Lithonia Bulldogs (8-3), the Region 2 No. 3 team. Nazir Mergan hit for 14 points and Keshawn George added 11 for the Panthers. Lithonia got 10 points from Jordan Washington.

Bethune 43, Henderson 32
Region 1 No. 4 seed Bethune (9-2) picked up a 43-32 win over Region 2 No. 8 Henderson (2-9). Mekyrius Miller hit for 13 points and Ke’Shawn Briggs notched 9 points to lead the Lions to the win.

Freedom 51, Sequoyah 15
Freedom (4-7) had a late charge in Region 1 to clinch the No. 8 spot and picked up a 51-15 win over Region 2 No. 10 Sequoyah (0-11). Three Rams hit double figures in the win including Onario Watson with 14 points, Elijah Swint with 12 and Usher Evanculla with 10.

Stephenson 47, Beacon Hill 14
Stephenson (6-5) sits in the No. 7 slot for Region 1 and picked up a 47-14 win over Region 2 No. 6 Beacon Hill (4-7). Michll’e Bankston was the top scorer for the Jaguars with 9 points while Khaleb Spear, Lamario Dorsey Jr., and Legendari Whitfield hit for eight points each in the win.

Champion 71, Druid Hills 40
The undefeated and Region 2 leader Champion Chargers (11-0) picked up a 71-40 win over Region 1 No. 3 Druid Hills (8-3) in crossover action. Carlin Cabbil was the leading scorer with 23 points and Jackson Usher added 15 points. Akil Robinson was a key on both ends of the court with a bevy assists and steals in the game for Champion.

Peachtree 56, McNair 40
The Peachtree Patriots (4-7), the No. 7 team in Region 2 defeated Region 1 No. 10 McNair (1-10) 56-40. Mason Scharft had 16 points for the winners and Kaiden Horton added 12.

Tucker 44, Miller Grove 38
The Region 2 No. 8 seed Tucker Tigers (3-8) pulled off a 44-38 win over Region 1 No. 5 seed Miller Grove (4-7). Vance Wilder was one of two Tigers in double figures with 18 points. Nehemiah Johnson joined Wilder in double figures with 10 points.

Salem 60, Columbia 35
The Region 2 No. 2 seed Salem Lions upped their mark to 10-1 on the season via a 60-35 win over the Columbia Eagles (1-10). Columbia’s Nolan Donahue had 14 points and Cy’Mun Yeates added 10.

Chamblee 53, Stone Mountain 29
Region 2 No. 5 seed Chamblee (6-5) rolled to a 53-29 win over Region 1 No. 8 Stone Mountain (3-8). Eston McDown hit for 12 points and Dante Cutillo knocked down 11 points in the win.

GIRLS RECAPS
Peachtree 25, McNair 16
Region 2 No. 7 seed Peachtree (4-7) got past Region 1 No. 10 McNair (0-11) 25-16. Erika Blake had 7 points and Justice McGuirt added 5.

Salem 61, Columbia 14
The Region 1 leader Salem (11-0) remained undefeated with a 61-14 win over Region 1 No. 6 Columbia (5-6). Mya Perry scored a game-high 24 points and Shanya Heath put up 18 in the win.

Stephenson 38, Beacon Hill 8
The Region 1 No. 2 seed Stephenson Lady Jaguars (10-1) shut down Region 2 No. 3 Beacon Hill (7-4) 38-8 in a crossover win. Jayla Walton had a game-high 16 points and was followed closely by teammate Loriel Murray with 15.

Cedar Grove 41, Redan 34
Region 2 No. 4 seed Cedar Grove (8-3) got its eight win of the season by defeating Region 1 No. 5 Redan (5-6) 41-34. Imani Coleman scored 17 points and added 6 steals in the win while teammate Ziryah Bell added 10 points and 3 steals.

Champion 64, Druid Hills 41
Region 2 No. 2 Champion (10-1) won its 10th game of the season with a 64-41 victory over Region 1 No. 3 Druid Hills (8-3). Charmaine Owens put up 21 points (7 steals) for Champion while teammate Lailah Cox added 12 points. Champion also got a 10-point, 9-rebound performance from Jhia Primrose in the win.

Freedom 38, Sequoyah 8
The Region 1 No. 7 Freedom Lady Rams (5-6) defeated Region 2 No. 10 Sequoyah (0-11) 38-8. Destiny Swint scored a game-high 23 points (2 assists) and got help from Genet Abatie (7 points, 4 steals) and Wanny Glady (4 points, 8 steals, 5 assists).

Chapel Hill 52, Lithonia 17
Three players hit in double figures as Region 1 No. 1 Chapel Hill (10-1) ran past Region 2 No. 8 Lithonia (3-8) 52-17. Mauri Barnes and Sanai Bryant hit for 13 points apiece and McKenzie Copeland added 10 for Chapel Hill in the win.

In other games, Miller Grove (2-9) slipped past Tucker (1-10) 28-25 and Bethune (7-4) defeated Henderson (4-7) 40-14.
