Chamblee senior pitcher Lily McCord and senior second baseman Savannah Russell were chosen out of 300-plus nominees to participate in the 2022 Georgia Dugout Club All-State Softball Game on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Truist Park.

The pair led the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs to the GHSA Class 5A State Tournament Elite Eight for the second consecutive season before being eliminated in the double elimination tournament in Columbus.

McCord finished the regular season 20-3 with a 1.70 ERA in 124 innings with 139 strikeouts and just 38 walks. She also batted .383 with 22 RBI on the season. McCord is committed to attend Columbia University in New York City.

Russell hit .375 on the season with 14 RBI and scored 33 runs from her leadoff spot in the lineup while also drawing 21 walks. She also played outstanding defense chasing down balls hit to either and into foul territory. Russell is committed to attend Rhodes College in Memphis.

They will play for the Region 3/4 All-Star team and faces the Region 1/2 team at 10:30 am at Truist Park in the first of their two games. They take on the Region 5/6 team at 4:15 to wrap up the four games scheduled.

Players are set to compete in a skills challenge and homerun derby following the second game where they will all be recognized.

Of those 300+ nominations 152 players had college commitments and 68 of those commitments were to colleges in Georgia. This year’s selection committee’s job was very difficult since the average player nominated had the following softball and academic statistics:

BAVG of .417
ERA of 2.35
GPA of 4.1
ACT of 23
SAT of 1100
