The final regular season DCSD middle school football games key to playoff berths for several teams. The Trail to the Title begins on Saturday, October 22 at Avondale Stadium.

Seeding and playoff spots are up for grabs in several games this weekend after a big weekend of playoff clinching victories during Week 7 of the DCSD middle school football play.

Stephenson sewed up the Region 3 title with its 28-0 win over Stone Mountain and finished the season a perfect 6-0. Jayden Johnson rushed for 165 yards for the Jaguars (6-0, 4-0) including touchdown runs of 35, 13 and 10 yards. Terrence Woodfin added a six-yard touchdown for the Jaguars. Kwame Green (3 ½ sacks) and Jacory Grant (2 ½ sacks) were big on defense in the shutout. Stephenson hosts the Region 1 No. 2 seed (yet to be determined) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9:00 am at Avondale Stadium in the first round of the Trail to the Title playoffs.

The Stone Mountain loss sets up a big showdown for the other Region 3 playoff spot (No. 2 seed) against Chapel Hill (4-1, 2-1) which defeated Druid Hills (0-5, 0-3) 38-0.

Cedar Grove (5-0, 3-0) sealed the No. 1 seed as the Region 4 champ vis a 38-0 win over the Redan Raiders (0-4-1, 0-2-1) behind a huge 200-yard rushing and three touchdown performance by King Parrom. Kaylin Williams added another 125 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Marquis Cohen had a 40-yard touchdown run for the Saints while Jaylen Thomas added a valuable 85 yards rushing. The Saints defense also added a safety. Cedar Grove has one regular season game left with McNair (1-3-1, 1-1-1) this weekend ,but is set to face the Region 2 loser between Lithonia and Tucker in the 10:30 am first round game at Avondale Stadium on Oct. 22.

The Bethune Lions (3-3, 3-1) secured the No. 2 spot out of Region 4 with a regular season ending 38-6 win over the Columbia Eagles (1-4, 0-3). Rashaad Silver reached the end zone four times for the Lions with two rushing touchdowns, one passing (to Tylar Wooten) and a pick-six. Mykerius Miller blocked a punt and Trevor Walker recovered for a touchdown. Columbia scored just before halftime on a 56-yard touchdown pass play from Michael Carter to Nolan Donahue. Bethune will take on the winner of Tucker and Lithonia in the 1:30 pm scheduled contest at Avondale Stadium on October 22.

The Region 2 title and playoff seeding is on the line as Lithonia and Tucker collide on Saturday in an 11:30 am contest at Hallford Stadium.

Lithonia (5-0, 2-0) kept its undefeated season intact with an 18-0 victory over defending Trail to the Title champion Salem (3-2, 0-2). Lithonia got on the board first as Armani Myco connected with Anthony Flournoy for a 57-yard touchdown pass play. Myco added a 24-yard touchdown run and Devis Dean carried the football 14 times for 137 yards. Quinton Rhodes had seven tackles (4 for loss) and Julian Hopson had a sack for a safety to aid the shutout win.

Tucker (5-0, 2-0) kept pace with Lithonia in Region 2 with a 38-0 victory over the Freedom Rams (1-4, 0-2) to set up the big game. Christian Copeland ran for two touchdowns and returned a fumble for another score to lead the Tigers. Jace German ran for a touchdown and passed to Christian Ema (40 yards) for another to go with two rushing two-point conversions. German also tossed two-point conversion passes to Maverick Armour and Ty’rell Jolly.

The Champion Chargers (2-3, 1-1) made their pitch for a playoff spot out of Region 1 with a 30-6 victory over the Henderson Cougars (2-3, 1-1). Jacory Ruffin-Daniels jump started the Chargers taking the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown to open the game. Champion would go on to a 22-0 halftime lead on the back of a 55-yard touchdown run by Alex Chambliss and a two-run touchdown run by Chase Livsey. Chambliss tacked on the Chargers final score with a seven-yard scamper. Kaiden Williams had an interception as Champion held the Cougars to just one score.

Champion needs a win against Sequoyah (0-5, 0-2) at 11:30 am on Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium to stay in the playoff hunt. Henderson faces off with Chamblee (2-3, 2-0), a 40-0 winner over Sequoyah last weekend, at 10:00 am at North DeKalb Stadium. A win by Chamblee gives the Bulldogs the Region 1 title and No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
