The Cedar Grove Saints got back on the winning track with a dominating 35-13 victory over the No. 22 nationally ranked St. John’s Cadets in Washington D.C. on Saturday afternoon.

An early fumble on their own 10-yard line in the first quarter that led to St. John’s early 7-0 lead (a Myles Slade 5-yard TD run)was one of just a few mistakes in an otherwise complete defeat of the Cadets (4-2) on their home field.

The Saints answered with 35 straight points started as quarterback Elliott Colson dropped back and fired a strike to Devin Carter for an eight-yard touchdown pass to knot the game at 7-7 when Amari Forte tacked on the PAT.

Cedar Grove got even for the earlier fumble that led to the Cadet’s first touchdown by recovering a fumble at the Cadet’s 35 and Boden Walker finishing off the drive with a one-yard run to give the Saints (4-2) the lead for good. Forte was good on the PAT to make it 14-7.

The Saints took a 21-7 lead into the half on the back of a 38-yard Quinterio Lawson pick-six in the second quarter. Forte was again good on the PAT.

Colson helped extend the lead to 28-7 in the third quarter as he scrambled to his right and found Ricky Lee for a 33-yard scoring toss. Forte again hit the PAT.

Cedar Grove made it 35-7 late in the fourth quarter on a five-yard touchdown run by Colson. Christian Orozco hit the PAT.

St. John’s picked up a late score on a 68-yard pass play from Isiah French to Asa Gregg. A two-point conversion failed to make the final of 35-13.

The Saints defense forced the Cadets to turn the ball over on downs four times in Saints territory during the game to end scoring threats by St. John’s . The defense also forced two turnovers. Quinterio Lawson had six tackles (1 sack, 2 for loss) along with his pick-six. Kyle Mosley chipped in seven tackles (1 sack, 2 for loss) as well to go along with a nine-tackle performance by Keith Bass.
