Pack running by the Clarkston Angoras produced seven Top 10 finishes on the way to a third victory this season in DeKalb County cross country competition in a race the Druid Hills Middle School course on Tuesday.

Clarkston’s Abenezer Woellore clocked a 17:24.54 to lead the Angoras to a 24-50 win over the Druid Hills Red Devils. Lakeside (93) was third followed by Dunwoody (109), Tucker (122), Towers (177) and Chamblee (185). Woellore kept up his pace and pulled away for a 22.29 second victory.

Druid Hills picked up a second and third place finish from Owen Blount (17:46.83) and Ethan Berryman (17:48.58), respectively, with the Angoras claiming fourth through sixth. Yospeh Beserat (18:04.49) led the trio of Clarkston runners in the middle of the Top 10 followed by Dejene Abatie (18:46.84) and Mengesha Alebachew (18:44.61).

Dunwoody’s Mark Westrick (18:45.28) broke up the Clarkston run finishing in seventh with another trio of Angoras following to round out the Top 10. Jean Paul Irasubiza (18:54.18) took eight for the Angoras followed in order by teammates Abdul Mahamat (19:05.98) and Claude Tusiime (19:09.68).

Lakeside nipped Dunwoody 37-38 in the first girls’ varsity race of the day with five runners in the first 11 to cross the finish line.

Dunwoody’s Emma Parker (22:58.79) claimed the top prize to lead the Lady Wildcats followed closely by Chamblee’s Talley Pendleton (23:00.08) in second.

Lakeside claimed the third and fourth spots as Ellie Skelton (23:43.96) and Alix Coulter (23:44.38) crossed the line to lead the Lady Viking contingent.

Dunwoody’s Ronnie Amrani (24:05.51) crossed in fifth and teammate Chloe Warren (24:20.35) was seventh as they sandwiched Druid Hills’ Indie Shuler (24:13.23) who was sixth.

Chamblee’s Paige Pendleton (24:50.07) was eighth followed by the title clinching Lakeside group of Libby Roundtree (25:08.01), Tristan Linscott (25:18.20) and Haley Davis (25:18.52).

Dunwoody’s Abby Reams (25:23.08) and Bobbi Allen (25:23.08) finished 12 and 13 to round out the Lady Wildcats scoring.

SECOND VARSITY RACE
Martin Luther King Jr. swept the boys’ and girls’ races in the second varsity competition of the day at Druid Hills Middle School.

The Lady Lions slipped by Southwest Dekalb 27-28 overcoming a first-place finish by Southwest DeKalb’s Janiya McCoy (23:49.79) thanks in part to a two-three finish from Morgan Hughes (24:53.50) and India Thorpe (26:20.29).

King had runners finish fifth and eighth in Taryn Adams (27:49.36) and Aniah Lake (29:05.27) to offset five Lady Panthers in the Top 10.

Jamea Lindley (26:58.63) was fourth for Southwest and Shamyah Wright was sixth (28:42.81). Kaila Wimes (29:46.22) was ninth and Alicia Williams (30:30.41) was 10th.

Miller Grove’s Danielle Miller took seventh place pushing Southwest DeKalb’s last finishers down a spot to allow the Lady Lions’ Destiny Campbell (30:46.76) to finish 11th and provide the winning margin.

In the boys’ race the Lions had five runners in the first nine finishers to ease to a 20-44 victory over Redan led by individual champ Braylin Grier (19:35.85).

Kameron Sutton (19:57.38) finished almost 22 seconds behind Grier to give the Lions a one-two finish in the race. Southwest DeKalb’s Micah Harris (20:05.77) was third and Redan’s Lodrick Scott (20:20.68) was fourth.

King’s Omari Sawyer (20:26.30) crossed the line in fifth and teammate Elias Sullivan (20:28.64) was just behind in sixth as the team closed in on the team title.

Second place Redan secured seventh and eight in the individual standings as Jamari Drumwright (21:36.25) and Zamarvian Green (21:43.83) came across next.

Khamani Avant (21:43.97) closed out the 20-point total for the Lions as the took ninth overall with Redan’s Justin Ballard (22:00.82) rounding out the Top 10.

JUNIOR VARSITY
Chamblee and Clarkston traded team wins in the junior varsity races at Druid Hills Middle School on Tuesday.

Chamblee claimed seven of the Top 10 finishes in the girls’ competition to outscore Clarkston 20-73. Arabia Mountain (81) was third followed by Tucker (102) and Southwest DeKalb (103).

Tucker’s Mia Huhtanen (14:22.61) claimed the individual crown and was followed in the next five spots by Chamblee runners. The first Lady Bulldog to cross was Julia Cashin (15:32.91) followed in order by Addie Yarbrough (16:26.43), Kathleen Mattison (16:28.02), Cassidy Pfau (16:31.78) and Samantha Yarbrough (16:35.56).

Seventh place went to Arabia Mountain’s Amiyah Keel-Harris (17:20.25) and eight to Lakeside’s Amelia Bell (17:29.86). Chamblee’s Juliet Herman (17:36.32) was ninth and Esther Salaru (17:44.31) was 10th.

Clarkston picked up its second team victory of the day as the junior varsity Angoras outdueled the Chamblee Bulldogs 23-32. Arabia Mountain was third with 79 points.

The Angoras’ win was fueled by a close one-two finish by Elvis Mbilizi (13:08.32) and Fnu Ulfat (13:08.44) as the pair was separated by just .12 of a second. Clarkston’s next runner would be sixth place finisher Daniale Seyfu (14:08.31) followed by teammate Gromyko Curry (14:09.44) in seventh. Mohamad Kanten (14:27.96) closed out the scoring for Clarkston with a 10th place finish.

Chamblee put four runners in the Top 10 led by third place finisher Eli Jacobs (13:21.22) and Henry Lehmann (13:22.96) in fifth. Decklin Chin (14:09.96) was eighth and Josh Loventhal (14:16.13) took ninth place to close out the Bulldogs’ top 10 runners.

Redan’s Anthony Beckford (13:22.91) grabbed fifth place overall in the standings and Arabia Mountain was led by a 14th place finish by Jaylen Hudson (15:21.57).
