The Stephenson Jaguars won a battle of undefeated teams by taking a 32-14 win over the Chapel Hill Panthers last Saturday in DeKalb County middle school Region 3 football action at Hallford Stadium.

Stephenson (4-0) got out to the early lead with an 85-yard opening kickoff return by Jordan Christie. A 17-yard run by quarterback Gavin Kinchen sent the Jaguars into halftime up 16-8.

Kinchen opened the scoring in the second half with a 15-yard touchdown pass play to Sheldon Evegan. Jayden Johnson rounded out the scoring with a 30-yard run to the end zone. Johnson and Ja’Mare Tolliver each contributed two two-point conversions in the game.

Chapel Hill (2-1) had a touchdown pass by Robert Williams and a kickoff return for a touchdown by TyShwan Kirkwood.

Chamblee 40, Champion 30
The Chamblee Bulldogs and Champion Chargers opened Region 1 play with an exciting back-and-forth game won 40-30 by the Bulldogs at North DeKalb Stadium.

Chamblee (1-3, 1-0) had three receiving touchdowns from Jalen Tipten and two on the ground by Matthew Craft on offense. Defensive back Randy Sagura added a score on his side of the football. Chamblee led 28-14 at the half.

Champion was led by running back Alex Chamblee with 200 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. Chase Livsey also ran for a TD with Jacory Ruffin adding two catches for 100 yards, including a touchdown reception on a pass from Michael Barnett. Courtney Baskerville had an interception for the Chargers.

McNair 6, Columbia 0
The McNair Mustangs picked up their first win of the season in a defensive struggle against the Columbia Eagles winning the Region 4 meeting 6-0 at Hallford Stadium.

McNair (1-3, 1-1) got the only points of the game on a 35-yard pick-six for the touchdown by Pontavious Wynn in the third quarter after the two teams came out of the half tied 0-0. Columbia’s Elonte Stephens had a big defensive play for the Eagles with an interception to help keep the Eagles (1-3, 0-2) within striking distance.

Stone Mountain 14, Miller Grove 6
A big defensive performance by defensive lineman Trenton Hart led the Stone Mountain Pirates to a 14-6 Region 3 victory over the Miller Grove Wolverines at Godfrey Stadium.

Hart collected eight tackles, four for a loss, as the Pirates (3-0-1, 2-0) gave up only one big play in the game. The long pass play resulted in Miller Grove’s touchdown as the Wolverine receiver showed great effort to haul in the pass. Miller Grove fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 I the region.

Bethune 12, Redan 0
The Bethune Lions’ defense forced two turnovers and held the Redan Raiders scoreless in a 12-0 Region 4 win at Godfrey Stadium.

Bethune (2-1-1, 2-0) is undefeated in Region 4 with the help of defenders Davion Mullins (fumble recovery) and Mekyrius Miller (interception). Rashaad Silver threw for one touchdown and ran for another in the win.

Redan (0-3, 0-1) got a 100-yard rushing game from Fredrick Johnson in the loss.

Henderson 30, Sequoyah 0
The Henderson Cougars won their Region 1 opener 30-0 over the Sequoyah Indians (0-4, 0-1) at North DeKalb Stadium. The Cougars (2-2, 1-0) led 30-0 after the third quarter.
