Miller Grove sent 16 batters to the plate in the second inning as the Lady Wolverines cruised to a 17-0 victory over the Tucker Lady Tigers at Cofer Park on Monday afternoon.

Leading 3-0 after the first inning, Miller Grove struck for 12 runs in the second inning to take complete control of the game. Two Tucker errors opened the door to the big inning. Julisa Payne-Wright made it 6-0 as her ground out to second plated two runs.

Sydnee Newby, who had tripled and scored in the first inning, came to the plate for the second time in the game and lofted a deep fly to left field that turned into a two-run, inside-the-park home run to extend the lead to 9-0.

Amiyah Morrison gave Miller Grove its second inside-the-park homer later in the inning scoring three runs. Imari Ward drove in a run in the inning with a ground out and Jaylen Clark added a RBI single to round out the scoring for a 15-0 advantage.

Tucker got the bases loaded in the bottom of the second only to come up empty as Miller Grove reliever Madison Roberts got a strikeout to end the threat.

Miller Grove picked up two runs to make it 17-0 in the top of the third inning aided by a wild pitch and a throwing error.

Tucker’s Kelsie Martin broke up the no-hitter for the Wolverines with a single in the bottom of the third, but a ground out to pitcher Amiyah Morrison ended the game.

Sydnee Newby led the Miller Grove offensive attack going 2-3 with a triple, home run, and two RBIs. Armonie Morrison was 2-4 with a RBI and three stolen bases. Kelsie Martin was 1-2 to lead the Tigers at the plate.
