The Georgia High School Football Daily produced a list of 140 former Georgia high school football players on NFL active rosters this week, 15 of which hail from the DeKalb County School District.

DeKalb and Gwinnett County Schools are tied with 15 current players on active rosters in the NFL with Cobb County following with nine. The 15 DeKalb players come from 10 different high schools and are spread across 13 NFL rosters.

Stephenson leads the way for DeKalb with four alumni on NFL rosters heading into the opening week for the professional league. The Jaguars are tied with Hillgrove and Peachtree Ridge with the most from one school in Georgia.

The players from Stephenson include linebacker D.J. Wonnum (Minnesota), running back Mike Davis (Baltimore), defensive end Montez Sweat (Washington) and linebacker Preston Smith (Green Bay).

Four 2022 DeKalb draftees made teams this year including the 28th pick of the first round in former Towers’ defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt (Green Bay), two former state champions from Cedar Grove in linebacker DeAngelo Malone (Atlanta, 3rd Round, 82nd overall) and Jelani Woods (Indianapolis, 3rd round, 73rd overall) along with McNair cornerback Christian Holmes (Washington, 7th round, 240th pick overall).

Arabia Mountain has a pair of alums on NFL rosters in wide receivers Breshad Perriman (Tampa Bay) and Jakobi Meyers (New England) joining Cedar Grove and Stephenson with two or more players on 2022 NFL rosters.

The others on active rosters include Columbia’s Gerald Everett (Tight end, Los Angeles Chargers), Lithonia’s Jordan Smith (defensive end, Jacksonville, on injured reserve), Martin Luther King’s Kevin Byard (free safety, Tennessee Titans), Southwest DeKalb’s Rock Ya-Sin (cornerback, Las Vegas Raiders), and Tucker’s Jonathan Ledbetter (defensive tackle, Arizona).

Green Bay and Washington both have two former DeKalb players on their rosters. Green Bay has Smith (Stephenson) and Wyatt (Towers) while Washington has Sweat (Stephenson) and Holmes (McNair).
