Fifteen DeKalb football teams open the 2022 season this week and 11 of them are going out of DeKalb to play their season openers.

The 2022 high school football season opens this week featuring 11 of 15 DeKalb teams traveling outside the county to kick off the season.

Opening on Thursday night, the Towers Titans and new head coach John Bowen hit the road to Macon to take on the Rutland Hurricanes and be the first DeKalb team to line up the regular season. The game is set for a 7:00 pm kickoff.

Other road games this week include seven on Friday headed by 2021 Class 2A playoff participant Columbia Eagles heading to Kingsland to take on the Camden County Wildcats at 7:30 pm.

Defending Class 3A state champions Cedar Grove Saints head to Bainbridge to take on the Class 4A Bearcats at 7:30 pm on Friday. The Bearcats won the Region 1-4A title a year ago and advanced to the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

Dunwoody at North Springs (7:30), Lakeside at Berkmar (7:30), Lithonia at Alcovy (7:30), McNair at Northview (7:30), Redan at Central-Carrollton (7:30) and Stone Mountain at Chapel Hill (7:30) round out the rest of the road games on Friday.

A pair of DeKalb teams start the season at Stockbridge on Saturday with the Stephenson Jaguars opening the doubleheader at 5:30 pm against the Dutchtown Bulldogs. The Southwest DeKalb Panthers open the 2022 campaign taking on the host Stockbridge Tigers in the nightcap at 7:30 pm.

There are three home games featuring four DeKalb teams on Friday led by a matchup between the Tucker Tigers and Miller Grove Wolverines at Hallford Stadium with kick off set for 7:30 pm.

The Martin Luther King Lions play host to the Duluth Wildcats in a 7:30 pm contest at Avondale Stadium on Friday. Arabia Mountain’s Rams hit the field at 7:30 pm on Friday at Godfrey Stadium against Maynard Jackson.

Chamblee, Clarkston, Cross Keys and Druid Hills all have the week open.
