A first county championship is special and a sweep of the boys’ and girls’ titles at the DeKalb County Middle Track and Field Championships was an exciting moment for the Chamblee Bulldogs on Monday at Godfrey Stadium.

Chamblee pulled away from a three-point advantage to a dominating 107-47 win over Bethune followed by Renfroe (45), Cedar Grove (44) and Tucker (41) in a tight battle for second.

The Bulldogs used 14 points in the first ever 4×800-meter relay run led by Team A’s gold medal and standard setting time of 9:31.33 for a 41 second margin over second place Henderson. Chamblee’s Team B added its fifth-place finish.

Bethune kept things close on the first day with wins in the long jump (Matthew Hass, 18-01.00) and shot put (Javonta Callaway, 41-11-00) and a second-place finish in the newly added triple jump (Chaz Watson, 37-05.25) behind gold medal winner Davion Terry (37-11.00) of Cedar Grove who won the inaugural event.

Chamblee's Owen Pearson was named the MVP of the Boys' Championship after anchoring wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays and fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash.

A win in the 4×100 relay (47.29) to open the track finals on Monday and Carson Rea (5:05.82) in second and Declan Chen (5:24.53 in sixth behind Tucker’s Ayano Kenore (5:05.24) in the 1600-meter run helped the Bulldogs open a 20-point advantage over Bethune (55-35).

Chamblee picked up its third gold in relay competition as MVP Owen Pearson anchored the 4×200 Team A (1:38.05) in its victory over Miller Grove (1:38.36). Pearson had also anchored the Bulldogs’ 4×100 relay as his bursts on the last leg of each event propelled the Bulldogs to the gold in both events. The time of 1:38.05 is the record going forward in the newly instituted 4×200 relay.

Ryan McCord’s win in the 800-meter run (2:13.56) coupled with Carson Rea’s (2:21.84) eighth place finish had the Bulldogs with an insurmountable lead of 84-45 over Bethune heading into the final two events.
