Key Hits aided a 12-run attack for the Columbia Eagles on the way to a 12-4 non-region victory over the Cedar Grove Saints in high school baseball action in the rain at Columbia on Monday afternoon.

Cedar Grove (0-6) took advantage of a pair one-out walks to Keith Bass and A. Abdiel in the top of the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back two-out singles by Geremiah Turner and Maurice Talley pushed across the two runs.

Columbia (5-6) answered right back in the bottom of the opening frame with big hits with runners on base. Ramondo Craddock picked up the first RBI of the game for Columbia with his singe into center field to score Nick Chester who led off the inning with a walk and a stolen base. Laprick Grissom also scored on the play due to a throwing error to knot the game at 2-2.

Two batters later Sabian Campbell drove a ball to deep left field that turned into a two run triple that put the Eagles ahead to stay at 4-2. Andre Speight followed Campbell with a double into left to make it 5-2.

Columbia starting pitcher sophomore Ty’Wann Bryant gave up the two runs in the first inning and would allow just one more run in going three innings for the win. He finished with three strikeouts and three earned runs in the outing.

Columbia would go on to close out the game in four innings with a 12-4 victory.

Marrionto Perry finished with a double and three RBI for the Eagles. Campbell had his triple with two RBI and scored a pair of runs in the game and Speight added three stolen bases to go with his double and RBI.
