Seven boys and one girl wrestled to Top 6 finished in the 2022 GHSA State Traditional Wrestling Tournament held recently at the Centreplex in Macon.

Southwest DeKalb was the county leader with three wrestlers (1 fourth, 2 sixth) placing in the Class 5A State Championships after winning the Area 5-5A championship.

Isaiah Scott wrestled his way to a fourth-place finish and a spot on the podium in the 220 class and was one of three DeKalb wrestlers to finish that high.

Southwest DeKalb’s Jordan Reed (170) and Jerrell Baskins (182) both finished sixth in their respective classes.

The Panthers finished 14th overall in the Class 5A team standings with 32 points. Stone Mountain finished 23rd overall in the team standings of Class 5A with 15 points.

Arabia Mountain, Miller Grove and Stephenson all had wrestlers place in the Top 6 of their respective classes in the Class 4A competition.

Malik Conley (160) was Arabia Mountain’s and DeKalb’s top finisher in Class 4A with a fourth in the 160 class. Arabia Mountain finished 21st in the team standings with 20 points.

Stephenson’s Omari McCree (182) and Miller Grove’s Jeremiah Sandiford (285) both brought home sixth place medals in their respective classes. Stephenson was 25th in the team standings with 17 points and Miller Grove was 30th with12.

Columbia’s Thawbaan As-Siddiq was the third DeKalb wrestler to finish sixth as he wrestled in the Class 2A 126 class. Columbia finished 22nd in the Class 2A team standings with 16 points.

Lithonia’s Taniyah Ford was the lone girl to place in state competition bringing home a sixth-place medal from the 152 class.

DeKalb had qualified 33 wrestlers (28 boys, 5 girls) to compete in the state championships.
