The semifinals DeKalb County Middle School Basketball Championships are now set after Saturday’s second round play was completed.

Undefeated Champion (14-0) leads the girls’ four semifinalists after defeating Chamblee (10-5) 54-14 on Saturday night at Champion. Charmaine Owens (14 points, 7 steals) led the scoring for Champion followed by Chance Alexander (13 points, 8 steals), Lauren Chavis (11 points, 5 assists, 6 steals) and Ryann Cheney (6 points, 6 rebounds). Champion plays host to Chapel Hill on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.

Chapel Hill 44, Miller Grove 24
The Region 4 champion Chapel Hill Lady Panthers (14-1) knocked off the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (12-3) 44-24 to move into the semifinals. Kendall Campbell put up a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double for the Panthers in the win. Deasia Kelly added 9 points and 5 steals for Chapel Hill. Miller Grove was the only loss this season for Chapel Hill, 46-44 decision on January 26th.

Salem 35, Bethune 16
Region 3 champion Salem (12-1) moved into the semifinals with a 35-16 win over Bethune (8-7) on Saturday at Redan. Shanya Heath hit for 14 points and Kelis Hall added 10 for the victors. Salem moves on to take on Stephenson on Wednesday at Cedar Grove with tip off set for 5:00 pm

Stephenson 39, Peachtree 23
The fourth team to advance to the semifinals on Wednesday is the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (12-3) as the Region 2 runners-up defeated the Region 1 champions Peachtree Lady Patriots (12-3) 39-23 at Peachtree on Saturday. Kamryn Larkin (17 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds), Sarah Okorowanta (9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block, 3 steals) and Cyncere Sims-Turner (7 points, 4 steals, 3 assists) combined for a strong finish for the Jaguars.

BOYS RECAPS
Region 4 co-champions Cedar Grove and Columbia along with fellow Region 4 member Bethune advanced into the semifinals with wins on Saturday night in boys’ play.

The wins assure at least one Region 4 squad will play for the county title on Saturday at Miller Grove High School.

Cedar Grove (13-2), seeded No. 1 after a coin toss, moved forward in the boys’ bracket with a 72-31 win over the Freedom Rams (7-8) at Chapel Hill. Reginald Harris hit for a game-high 25 points and Emanuel Green added 22 in the Saints’ win on Saturday. Cedar Grove hosts Chamblee, a 58-27 winner over Miller Grove at 6:30 pm on Wednesday.

Columbia 53, Redan 36
The Columbia Eagles (13-2) put away Region 3 champions Redan Raiders (11-3) 53-36 to advance to the semifinal round. Bryson Bigsby had a big day hitting for 28 points to aid the Eagles’ victory. Jashawn Thompson (13) and Brandon Bigsby played key roles in the win. Columbia will host fellow Region 4 member Bethune on Wednesday at 5:00 pm with a spot in the finals on the line.

Chamblee 58, Miller Grove 27
The Chamblee Bulldogs (13-2) cruised into the semifinals with a 58-27 victory over the Miller Grove Wolverines (6-9) at Peachtree on Saturday. Cato Ryles came off the bench to score 13 points for the Bulldogs and Ryan McCord matched him with 13 of his own as the pair topped the scoring for Chamblee.

Bethune 46, Champion 30
The Bethune Lions (9-6) used a strong inside game to knock off the Champion Chargers (8-7), who were riding a five-game winning streak, 46-30 to advance to the semifinals. Dontavious Strainfield and Jaylon Phillips stripped the nets for 16 points each for the winners.
