A 5-0 run in the final 53 seconds rallied the Miller Grove Wolverines to a 41-37 Region 6-4A road victory over the Druid Hills Red Devils on Tuesday night.

Keshawn Evans drove for a basket with 1:58 to play to put the Red Devils up 37-36 for the seventh lead change of the second half. Druid Hills got the ball back following a missed free throw by Miller Grove and started running the clock.

Miller Grove (2-3, 1-0) got a rebound by Jabril Sheppard on a Red Devils’ miss and got the ball up the court to Taison Mathis who drove for a layup and was fouled on the make. Mathis hit the free throw to put Miller Grove up 39-37 with 53.1 seconds to play.

The Red Devils (7-1, 0-1) got up the court and Nicholas Majors got around a defender on the way to the goal. His shot rolled around the rim and off into the hands of Nicholas Burton who was fouled with 34.7 seconds to play. He went to the line and missed both free throws and Druid Hills called a timeout.

The Red Devils got the ball Evans who was fouled while shooting with 22.1 seconds left. Both free throws rolled off the rim. Sheppard was fouled on the rebound of the second miss and went to the line with 18.9 seconds remaining. He sank both free throws to seal the 41-37 win as the Red Devils.

The teams went to the half tied 20-20 as Miller Grove’s Hopkins got an offensive put back with 11 seconds left in the first half.

Jahmil Barber led Miller Grove with 10 points and 7 rebounds as the Wolverines improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in region play and ended the Red Devils seven-game win streak to start the season. KaRon Strickland led all scorers with 14 points as the Red Devils top point getter and Nick Majors joined him in double figures with 10.

Druid Hills 55, Miller Grove 28
Druid Hills jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game on the way to a 55-28 Region 6-4A victory over the Lady Wolverines in the night’s opening game at Druid Hills.

Kaitlyn Robinson sandwiched a three-pointer by Iona Atwaters and Kyia Craft finished off the 9-0 run with a layup before Miller Grove got on the board on a layup by Newby to get the Lady Wolverines on the board with 4:55 left in the first half.

Robinson would add a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to send Druid Hills to a 20-5 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Craft had back-to-back baskets late in the first half to give Druid Hills a 31-10 halftime lead.

Newby had a layup and a three-pointer in the first minute and a half of the third quarter as Miller Grove cut the lead to 33-17. Druid Hills answered with a 9-0 run again keyed by four free throws by Anissa Brailsford and the Wolverines would never get closer than 21 the rest of the way.

Robinson finished the night with 18 points and 5 rebounds for Druid Hills (6-1, 1-0) and was joined in double figures by Kyia Craft with a 13-point, 8 rebound night.

Trinity Coleman had 12 points and 6 rebounds to lead Miller Grove (1-7, 0-1).
