Seven teams improved to 2-0 in the early season of DeKalb middle school basketball.

Wednesday night games had seven DeKalb Middle School basketball teams improve to 2-0 on the season including three on the girls’ side as schools head into the final games before the Thanksgiving Holidays.

Miller Grove defeated Redan 36-17 in Region 3 girls’ action to improve to 2-0 overall and move atop the region standings at 1-0. Bailee Canty hit for 16 points and Liyah Canton added 10 in the win. Miyah Campbell had six points to lead Redan (0-2, 0-1).

Chapel Hill 42, Cedar Grove 7
The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers rolled to a 42-7 win over Cedar Grove on Wednesday behind the play of Joie Files and Kendall Campbell. Files had a 12-point, 10 steal double-double and Campbell contributed 11 points, 9 rebounds and one block. Chapel Hill is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Region 4. Cedar Grove fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Columbia 31, Freedom 20
Columbia upped its mark to 2-0 on the season via a 31-20 win over Freedom on Wednesday. Makayla Juhan hit for 16 points to lead the way for the Lady Eagles. Freedom fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss.

Champion 41, Stephenson 17
Champion opened its season on Wednesday with a 41-17 Region 2 win over Stephenson (1-1, 0-1) with a great team effort. Chance Alexander (12 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals), Charmaine Owens (8 points, 3 rebounds, 7 steals), Lauren Chavis (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 8 steals) and Ryan Cheyney (6 points, 6 rebounds) helped in the all-around team win. Kamryn Larkin led Stephenson.

Chamblee 34, Druid Hills 16
Chamblee won its season opener 34-16 over Druid Hills (1-1, 0-0) in non-region action on Wednesday. Chamblee (1-0) was led by Sara Adekunle with 10 points and Kyndal Hardaway with 7. Druid Hills Azelia Shell hit for 8 points in the loss.

Tucker 20, Sequoyah 8
Tucker improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 1 via a 20-8 victory over Sequoyah (0-2, 0-1) on Wednesday. Kassidy Manning had 16 points to lead Tucker. Sequoyah’s Dailyn Carreto led a fourth quarter defensive effort that held Tucker scoreless during the final period of play.

Peachtree 31, Stone Mountain 13
Peachtree opened its season with a 31-13 win over Stone Mountain (0-2) on Wednesday. Royston led the way for Stone Mountain.

Other scores include Lithonia (1-1) winning 30-9 over Henderson (1-1) and Salem (1-0) opening its season with a 43-16 win over McNair (0-2) in non-region games.

BOYS RESULTS
Four boys’ teams improved to 2-0 on the season as Tucker, Henderson, Redan and Columbia all stayed perfect in the early going of the 2022 season.

Tucker improved to 2-0 overall with a 56-15 win over Sequoyah (0-2, 0-1) in Region 1 action on Wednesday. Jakobi Williams (14 points), Gregory Simmons (12) and Octavius Greshem (11) all hit double figures in the win for the Tigers.

Redan 40, Miller Grove 20
A 40-20 win over Miller Grove (1-1, 0-1) put Redan (2-0, 1-0) atop the Region 3 standings. Tristen Mitchell had a good all-around game hitting for 21 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists for Redan.

Columbia 66, Freedom 43
The Columbia Eagles improved to 2-0 overall with a 66-43 win over the Freedom Rams (1-1, 0-0) on Wednesday as two Eagles hit for over 20 points. Bryson Bigsby burned the nets for 27 and Jashawn Thompson added to the fire with 25 points on the night for Columbia.

Henderson 40, Lithonia 27
The Henderson Cougars upped their record to 2-0 on the young season with a 40-27 victory over Lithonia (0-2) on Wednesday. Pearce Becker hit for 10 points and Azion Spencer added 8 points and 4 rebounds in the win.

McNair 35, Salem 34
Salem dropped its season opener in a heartbreaking 35-34 decision to McNair (1-1). Salem’s Emontae Gourdine had 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the loss.

Peachtree 40, Stone Mountain 39
Peachtree pulled out a thrilling 40-39 win over Stone Mountain (0-2) in the Patriots season opener. Jack Lamb hit for 17 points and Emerson Mitchell added 15 to lead Peachtree. Stone Mountain got great efforts from Ishmel Thompson with 18 points and Jahlil Thomas pouring in 16 more.

Chamblee 55, Druid Hills 22
Three Bulldogs hit in double figures to lead Chamblee (1-0, 0-0) to a season opening win over Druid Hills (1-1). Darrell Dickens, Jaydon Avery and Ryan McCord all hit in double figures for Chamblee while Eston McDow came off the bench to pitch in 8 more.

Champion 51, Stephenson 38
The Champion Chargers opened their season with a 51-38 Region 2 victory over the Stephenson Jaguars (0-2, 0-1). The outside shooting of Jackson Ushery, Carlin Cabbil and Jacoby Huff proved to be the difference in the win over Stephenson. Rahsaan Isaac led the way defensively as part of the Charger’s press.
