Cedar Grove and Towers gave DeKalb a pair of wins over Atlanta City Schools Douglass and Therrell on Friday night at “Buck” Godfrey Stadium.

Towers (3-6) opened the misty night with a 49-32 win over the Therrell Panthers in a Region 6-2A contest.

Junior quarterback Isaiah Logan accounted for six touchdowns in leading the Titans in the win as he passed for two, ran for three and returned a punt for another in the victory.

Both passing touchdowns came in the first quarter. The first was a 56-yard bomb down the middle to Elijah Hobson for a 6-0 lead with 8:27 remaining in the period. He followed that up with a fourth and goal two-yard pass to Adrian Alvin and then added the two-point conversion on a pass to Deshawn Broughton for a 14-0 lead.

A 23-yard pass to Jeremy Logan set up the QB for a 26-yard touchdown run. Eh-Wah-Blu tacked on the PAT to make it 21-0 with 11:21 left in the first half.

Leading 21-6 following the first of five touchdowns by Therrell quarterback Khamar Carlisle, the Titans forced a punt and Logan weaved his way 40 yards to the right side and into the end zone to make it 27-6 going into halftime.

Logan scored on a 39-yard scramble with 9:53 to play in the third quarter. He then threw to Keshawn Weathers for the two-point conversion to make it 35-6.

Weathers would tack on a 60-yard kickoff return and Logan scored on a 14-yard scamper to close out the 49-32 win.

Cedar Grove 56, Douglass 0
The No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints rolled to a 56-0 Region 5-3A win over the Douglass Astros to improve to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in region play.

Boden Walker and Demarcus Smith both scored two touchdowns as the Saints defense held Douglass to just nine yards of total offense.

Walker had runs of 63 and 3 yards and Smith scored on a two-yard plunge and a nine-yard run. A 16-yard pick six by Gary Turner along with a 33-yard Elliot Colson touchdown pass to Barry Jackson made it a 49-0 Saints advantage at the half.

Jamar Graham closed out the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Bernard Mack for the final of 56-0. Amari Forte was a perfect 8-8 on his PATs.

Walker finished with eight carries for 137 yards and two touchdowns for the Saints. The win sets up a big showdown at Sandy Creek (8-1, 5-1) next Friday.

Southwest DeKalb 33, Decatur 19
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers knocked off ranked and previously undefeated Decatur 33-19 aided by a pair of pick-sixes and two blocked punts in a key Region 5-5A victory at Decatur on Friday night.

The Panthers (5-4, 4-1) were up 20-13 late in the game when the Bulldogs scored and went for a failed two-point conversion to trail 20-19. Decatur recovered an onside kick with the momentum swinging their way with just over two-minutes to play.

Southwest snatched the momentum right back as Sabian Campbell intercepted a Bulldog pass on the first play following the kick and returned it 55 yards to extend the Panthers’ lead to 26-19.

The win sets Southwest DeKalb up with an opportunity to get the No. 2 seed and a home playoff game with a win over Northview next week.

Dunwoody 17, Discovery 7
The Dunwoody Wildcats have clawed their way into a playoff opportunity after a 17-7 road victory over Discovery on Friday night in Region 7-7A action.

The Wildcat defense got a touchdown and a bad snap on punt by Discovery gave the Wildcats the ball on the one yard line. Dunwoody punched it in on the way to the win.

Dunwoody (3-6, 2-3) plays host to Duluth (4-5, 2-3), a 42-7 loser to Archer, next Friday at North DeKalb Stadium with a playoff berth on the line. Dunwoody’s last playoff appearance was 2009 when they defeated Elbert County to advance to the Sweet 16.
