A run towards a Region 7-7A title is in the making as the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats won their fifth consecutive region game 7-0 over the Discovery Lady Titans on Tuesday night at North DeKalb Stadium.

Dunwoody had fell to 1-1 in region play with a 2-0 loss at home to Norcross on February 19 but have since reeled off seven consecutive wins including five 7-7A contests one of which was a get even on the road at Norcross 2-0 victory last week.

The Lady Wildcats (9-3, 7-1) had trouble finishing off scoring opportunities (10 shots) throughout most of the first half as their shots misfired or Discovery goalie Kaylie Rosales was able to make the save.

The score was still scoreless as Rosales made a save out front with 45 seconds to play. Dunwoody got the ball back and were set to hit a corner kick. The kick was lofted in front of the goal where Dunwoody’s Olivia Odiorne was able to head the ball towards the goal and it glanced off the crossbar before hitting a defender and going into the net.

Dunwoody took a 1-0 lead into the half but seemed to have opened the floodgates. The Lady Wildcats came out of the half scoring at will with four goals in the first seven minutes of play.

The lead went to 2-0 just 25 seconds into the second half as Sarah Holland found Kate Barrett in front of the goal for a nice shot into the goal.

Just over three minutes later Barrett blasted a shot from 30 yards out over the goalie’s head and under the crossbar to make it 3-0. Two minutes later Holland connected with Lily Garrigan in traffic out front of the goal for her second of four assists in the second half to make it 4-0.

Holland hit a streaking Camryn Lampron down the left side for her third assist and Lampron’s first goal of the game with 33:18 left in the game to for a 5-0 advantage.

It would be 17 minutes before another score when Ella Ryan’s shot found the net from the right side to make it 6-0 with 16:10 remaining. Ryan picked up her second goal of the game with 7:36 on the clock as Holland fed her to make the final of 7-0.

Discovery goalie Kaylie Rosales had eight saves on the night despite getting injured and also hit in the face on another shot on goal. Dunwoody’s Ella Holland had a relatively quiet night as Discovery only got one real shot on goal.

The Lady Wildcats have four region games left to play while Norcross has only two sitting at 9-1 atop the standings.
