DeKalb baseball teams enjoyed better weather during Week 2 of the season.

Mother Nature was kind to the DeKalb County baseball teams last week as many got in several games led by Tucker’s 2-0 mark on the week.

Lakeside (3-1), Columbia (2-1) and Martin Luther King Jr. (2-1) also posted winning slates as teams aw some sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Coach Bobby Link’s Tucker Tigers took it to Heritage of Conyers, rolling to victories of 15-5 Feb. 23 on the road and then a 12-6 home triumph Feb. 25 to move to 3-2 overall.

Coach Brian Granger’s Lakeside Vikings picked up triumphs over Chamblee (7-1) Feb. 22, Oconee County (12-2) Feb. 27 and Apalachee (3-2) Feb. 27 while losing only a road decision of 8-6 to North Cobb Christian Feb. 23 in improving to 4-1 overall.

Senior Joseph Garcia teamed with two relievers to silence the Chamblee bats in a 7-1 Lakeside triumph Feb. 22 at Lakeside. Garcia struck out seven and allowed one run and four hits over four innings to garner the mound decision. Sophomores Will Berry (2 IP; 2 SO; 2 BB) and Nitin Rao (1 IP), meanwhile, combined to toss three scoreless innings of relief.

Junior Isaac Terrell (2-4; 1 RS; 1 2B) and senior Will Thomas (2-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B; 1 SB) led a nine-hit offensive outing for the Vikings. Senior Sam Murphey hurled three scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing only three hits and two walks in a tight 8-6 loss at North Cobb Christian Feb. 23. Junior Lucas Uyeda (2-3; 2 RBI; 1 RS) paced the Viking offense in defeat.

Lakeside next pounded out 10 hits in a 12-2 romp over Oconee County Feb. 27, led by junior Malachi Cloud (2-4; 3 RBI; 2 RS; 1 2B) and senior Zaylan Washington (2-3; 1 RBI). Garcia went the full six innings on the mound for the Vikings, striking out eight while allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run to pick up the decision.

The Vikings closed out the week with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Appalachee Feb. 27 at Oconee County. Cloud (2-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI; 2 2B) and junior Reeve Walden (2-3; 1 RS; 1 SB) collected two hits each to lead the way at the plate. Junior Will Tansill (5 IP; 4 SO; 1 BB; 2 RA) turned in a strong starting effort on the mound, while Berry took credit for the victory with 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Coach Greg Barnett’s Columbia Eagles evened their record at 2-2, besting Miller Grove (10-5) Feb. 23 and Martin Luther King Jr. (11-6) Feb. 24 before dropping a 5-4 decision to Martin Luther King Jr. Feb. 24.

Coach Greg Boatwright’s Martin Luther King Jr. Lions rolled past Towers (12-0) Feb. 25 to go along with the doubleheader split with Columbia Feb. 24 in getting off to a 2-1 start.

Junior Michael Faustin (4-4; 2 RBI; 1 RS; 1 2B; 1 3B) posted a huge offensive outing for Southwest DeKalb in a 14-0 road defeat at Paideia Feb. 24.

Chamblee received two hits each from junior Connor Pressnall (2-4; 2 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B), senior Finn Allers (2-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI), junior Taylor Flowers (2-3; 1 RS), sophomore David Welsh (2-3; 1 RS; 1 2B) and junior Mason Pasley (2-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI) and a stellar pitching performance from senior Pete Constantinides (6 IP; 5 SO; 2 HA; 0 ER) in a 9-1 home triumph over Maynard Jackson Feb. 27.
