Baseball got underway during a wet first week of action.

Poor weather again washed away most of the first week baseball action in DeKalb County, as only 15 of the 34 scheduled games were played last week.

Two teams posted undefeated records and one other registered a winning mark to lead the way.

Coach Brian Granger’s Lakeside Vikings leaned on a stellar pitching performance while knocking off neighborhood rival Druid Hills by a 3-0 margin Feb. 20.

Junior Will Tansill turned in a splendid pitching effort for Lakeside in the 3-0 triumph over Druid Hills Feb. 20 at home. Tansill started and allowed two hits while striking out five over five scoreless innings to pick up the mound triumph. Juniors Isaac Terrell (1 IP; 1 SO; 1 HA) and Malachi Cloud (1 IP; 1 BB) came on to nail down the shutout. Terrell also led the way offensively for the Vikings, going 2-3 with two runs scored to pace a six-hit attack.

Coach Tyrus Taylor’s Southwest DeKalb Panthers also got off to a perfect 1-0 start, rumbling past Columbia on the road to the tune of 15-0 Feb. 17.

Senior Joseph Garcia (1-3; 1 RS; 1 SB), Cloud (1-3; 1 SB), junior Reeve Walden (1-4; 1 RBI; 1 SB) and senior Joseph Tolbert (1-3; 1 RBI) also collected one hit each. Southwest DeKalb likewise received a stellar outing on the mound in a 15-0 road triumph over Columbia Feb. 17. Sophomore Jaryl Williams tossed three scoreless innings as the starting pitcher, striking out four and allowing only one walk. Junior Sadir Ryan, meanwhile, turned in a huge offensive outing for the Panthers, finishing 3-4 with six RBI, one run scored and one double. Sophomore Antrez McDowell (1-3; 2 RBI; 1 RS; 1 2B) also shined at the plate.

Dunwoody rounded out the list of local squads with a winning record through the first week following three weekend games at Lake Point. Coach Chan English’s Wildcats dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Harrison in the season opener Feb. 19 but bounced back to claim impressive triumphs over Newnan (5-1) and Woodward Academy (9-8) in a pair of Feb. 20 contests.

Chamblee received multiple hits from senior Isaac Harkins (3-4; 2 RBI; 1 RS; 1 HR) and senior Pete Constantinides (2-4; 1 RS) in a thrilling 7-6 home triumph over Mt. Pisgah Feb. 20. Senior Finn Allers (1-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI) and sophomore Fabian Walker (1-3; 1 RS) also added to the offensive cause.

Senior Patrick Scott earned the pitching decision for the Bulldogs, starting and allowing no earned runs while striking out three and walking two over two innings. Junior Tyler Sun (2 1/3 IP; 2 SO; 2 HA; 2 BB) also was solid in relief on the mound for Chamblee in the victory.

Harkins (2-2; 2 RS; 1 RBI; 2 SB) and sophomore David Welsh (2-4; 1 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B) delivered two hits each for Chamblee in a 12-7 home loss to Tucker Feb. 20.
