Two big pass plays from quarterback Amir Streeter to Isaiah Raheem sparked the Tucker Tigers to a 29-12 victory over their DeKalb rival Southwest DeKalb at Hallford Stadium on Friday night.

It was the 21st meeting between two of the winningest programs in DeKalb County, but the first since 2013 as the Tigers raised their record to 14-6-1 all-time against the Panthers.

Camden Russell gave Tucker an early 3-0 lead with 5:11 left in the first quarter with a 31-yard field goal after Panther defense stiffened at its own 14 to force the field goal.

The Tigers forced a Southwest punt and needed just five plays to cover 59 yards as Street found Raheem streaking down the left hash to connect on a 44-yard touchdown pass. The point after attempt was blocked to keep the lead at 9-0 in favor of the Tigers with 1:04 remaining in the first quarter.

Another big touchdown play came with 10:02 left in the first half as Street again found Raheem. Raheem caught the ball near the right sideline and broke a couple of tackles before getting hit and falling across the goal line for the touchdown. Street connected on a quick pass to his left with Keeman Hayes for the two-point conversion for a 17-0 lead.

Tucker made a big hit on a punt and recovered the ball at the Southwest 43 and needed just three plays to go the distance for another touchdown. Running back Latavious Johnson had runs of 10, 17 and 16 yards to put the Tigers in the end zone. Russell added the point after for a 24-0 advantage at the half.

Russell kicked a 29-yard field gold with 7:24 left in the third quarter to extend the lead to 27-0 and cap a 10-play, 49-yard drive.

The final Tucker score came with 5:48 left in the third period as a snap went over the Southwest DeKalb punter’s head for a safety.

Southwest DeKalb answered with a 10-play, 79-yard drive to get on the board behind runs of 17, 8, 14 and 14 by James Carswell to move down to the Tucker four-yard line.

Quarterback Samir Ryan faked to Carswell, pulled the ball out and cruised around the left side into the end zone to trim the lead to 29-6 with 50 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Panthers closed the gap with 2:59 to play as Sabian Campbell connected with Armond Davis on a 32-yard touchdown pass. The two-point was again no good.

Tucker ran out the final three minutes to seal the game and the 29-12 victory.

Latavious Johnson led the Tigers ground game rushing for 155 yards on 27 carries with the one touchdown. Streeter finished hitting on 5 of 9 passes for 109 yards and the two touchdowns to Raheem (4 catches, 106 yards). Carswell led the Panthers with 19 carries for 84 yards.

No. 1 Cedar Grove 14, No. 5 Milton 7
Two big fourth quarter defensive stands helped the Class 3A No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints rally past the Class 7A No. 5 ranked Milton Eagles 14-7 at Milton on Friday night.

Milton led 7-0 at the half before the Saints pulled within 7-6 at the 5:25 mark when quarterback Austin Smith ran up the middle for 11 yards for the Saints first score of the game.

Smith put the Saints ahead with 11:04 to play as he went around the right end on a 12-yard scamper, diving to the pylon for the score. Antonio Taylor ran in the two-point conversion for the 14-7 lead.

The Saints defense led by DeMarius Jackson stopped the Eagles on a fourth and short with 3:05 to play, but Cedar Grove failed to do much with the football and punted.

Milton drove from its own 21 to the Cedar Grove 10 with a chance to tie or win the game on the final play. Saints defensive back Kayin Lee sealed the win on the final play as he broke up the pass in the end zone to end the game.

Smith rushed eight times for 104 yards and was 13-20 passing for 113 yards.

The win gives Cedar Grove a 2-1 lead in the series with Milton. The two had split games in 1976 and 1977.

Columbia 24, Therrell 6
Deyonte Mitchell and Royce Tolbert contributed touchdown runs to lead the Columbia Eagles to a 24-6 victory over Therrell in Region 6-2A play at Avondale Stadium on Friday night.

The win gave first-year Head Coach Greg Barnett his first win.
