Defending champs Lady Chargers push win streak to five games.

Champion won the DeKalb County Middle School girls’ basketball title last year and after an 0-2 start have reeled off five consecutive victories as teams close in on the holiday break.

Champion (5-2, 3-1) picked up non-division wins this past week over Columbia (38-18) and Henderson (24-21) after climbing back to the top of the Region 2 standings the prior week of action. Raven Robinson scored 15 points in the win over Columbia while adding nine in the win over Henderson to go with 13 points by Ebony Bumbrey.

Freedom 40, Miller Grove 20
The Freedom Lady Rams (6-1, 3-1) took the lead in Region 3 with a 40-20 victory over Miller Grove (4-3, 1-3). Kyhyra Thompson led the way with 18 points and Jamiya Jenkins added 13.

Redan 33, Miller Grove 32
The Redan Lady Raiders (3-4, 2-3) started a rough week for Miller Grove with a thrilling 33-32 victory to move out of the cellar of the Region 3 standings. Zaniyah Arnold scored 13 points in the loss for Miller Grove.

BOYS’ RECAPS
The Miller Grove Wolverines (7-1, 3-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season (39-30 to Region 3 foe Salem) to sweep their two games this past week to stay within a game of the region leading Salem Lions.

Miller Grove opened with a 42-36 win over Redan (2-4, 1-4) led by Marion Hopkins 14-point, 11-rebound double-double in the game. Trevian Calloway added 13 points and six assists for Miller Grove.

The Wolverines closed out the week with a strong 65-24 win over the Freedom Rams (1-6, 0-4) on Saturday. Calloway led the way with 10 points and 11 assists while Abel Etienne added 10 points, three steals and three assists. Jakharre Barnes contributed eight points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Stone Mountain 35, Druid Hills 34
Jahki Howard sealed a big night on the court with a game winning steal to propel the Stone Mountain Pirates (5-3, 3-1) to a thrilling 35-34 Region 2 victory over the Druid Hills Dragons (4-3, 1-2). Howard finished the night with 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Malik Hinton added seven points and five assists in the win.

Champion 56, Columbia 51
Two undefeated teams clashed in a non-region battle with the Champion Chargers (7-0, 4-0) coming out on top of the Columbia Eagles (7-1, 4-0) 56-51. Tyler Lee had two big three-pointers and Arrington Watkins had a big steal and layup to hold off the Eagles for the win.
