Champion flies past Renfroe to take control in Region 2 race.

The Champion Chargers are leading the way in the Region 2 race of the DeKalb County Middle School League following a convincing 56-12 victory over the Renfroe Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1) at Decatur last Saturday.

Arrington Watkins and Milton Smith Jr. both accounted for two touchdowns to lead the Chargers (4-0, 2-0) to the win.

Watkins caught a touchdown pass from Julian Shanks and also threw a touchdown to Daniel Ndukwe for the Chargers. Smith ran for a score and also returned a kickoff 70 yards for another touchdown.

Wesley Brown, Savion Border and Jackson Washington added a rushing touchdown apiece for Champion.

Kyle Mosley had two sacks and Marcus Toudeka had an interception for a dominating performance from the Chargers’ defense in the game.

Chamblee 32, Sequoyah 22
The Chamblee Bulldogs picked up their first on-the-field win of the season with a 32-22 win over the Sequoyah Chieftains (2-3, 2-1) on Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium.

Coz’e Myer lead the Bulldogs (2-2, 2-0) run to the win by scoring three touchdowns. Myer had touchdown runs of 32 and 12 yards to go with a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Kaden Brown added a 60-yard touchdown pass from Skyler Williams.

Salem 36, Redan 0
Jadan Baugh accounted for four touchdowns in leading the Salem Lions (3-1, 2-0) to a 36-0 Region 3 win over the Redan Raiders (1-3, 0-2).

Baugh hit four of his six passes in the game for 146 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 112 yards on the ground and another touchdown.

Sakuan Foster and Robert Wyche optimized their receptions in the game accounting for three touchdowns. Foster had two catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns while Wyche caught one touchdown pass for 32 yards. Elijah Edwards contribute six carries for 102 yards and a touchdown for the Lions.

Salem’s defense was outstanding in holding the Raiders scoreless in game (second shutout of the season) as Lario Baity, Anthony Harris and Arlando George each had 5 tackles in the game, including a combined six tackles for a loss. Barry Douglas had a key interception in the game for Salem.

Miller Grove 32, Freedom 8
Staying atop the Region 3 standings was accomplished by the Miller Grove Wolverines as they knocked off the Freedom Rams (1-2, 0-1) 32-8 at Avondale Stadium on Friday.

Ali Dorgan had another big game for the Wolverines (4-0, 2-0) with three touchdowns in the game.

Chapel Hill 16, Columbia 14
The Chapel Hill Panthers stayed in the race for a Region 4 title with a thrilling 16-14 win over the Columbia Eagles at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday.

Tyreion Kirkwood got the Panthers (3-1, 2-0) off to a good start with a pick-six interception return in the first quarter. Dwayne Hayes contributed a 13-yard touchdown as he rushed for 52 yards on six carries.

Isaiah Scott rushed for 94 yards on 16 carries picked up a crucial first down on a third and 18 to help the Panther seal the win.

The Panthers defense was led by Julian Donaldson with 12 tackles along with Dwayne Hayes and Aries Thomas contributed 10 tackles each in the game.

Columbia (2-2, 0-2) came close to tying the game behind a 40-yard touchdown pass from Romando Craddock to Jeffrey Barnes and a 20-yard touchdown run by Carlita Dozier.

Bethune 22, McNair 0
The Bethune Lions picked up their first victory of the season with a 22-0 win over their Region 4 foes McNair Mustangs (1-3, 0-2) on Saturday at Godfrey Stadium.

Tracy Hines led the way for Bethune (1-2, 1-0) rushing for a 40-yard touchdown and throwing two touchdown passes in the win.
