Week 2 of the DeKalb County cross country regular season moved to Arabia Mountain with Clarkston and Martin Luther King Jr. getting sweeps of the two races on Tuesday.

Clarkston’s first DCSD regular season meet competition went well as the Angoras swept the second race at Arabia Mountain.

The Lady Angoras outran the Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers 21-34 to capture the win led by a trio of runners crossing 1-2-3 for Clarkston.

Junior Zoi Woods (26:51.50) took the individual honors to lead the trio which included freshman Chantez Bellomy (29:03.50) in second and junior Griselda Gonzalez (31:05.10) in third.

Sophomore Rachel Tuyambaze (31:44.40) was fifth and junior Chantal Ishimwe (35:15.20) was 12th to clinch the victory.

Sophomore Dashuna Gillis (31:38.90) led Southwest DeKalb with a fourth place finish. The Lady Panthers swept sixth through eighth place led by senior Nya Bostic (31:54.60) followed by juniors Angelee Mitchell (32:10.20) and Lauryn Bell (32:28.60).

Towers did not score as a team, but two runners in the Top 10 in junior Taheera Abdulah (32:51.00) in ninth and senior Shayla Glass (33:05.50) in 10th.

The Angoras led by junior Thaddee Barge (19:09.60) placed four runners in the Top 10 to get past Tucker, which had three in the Top 10, 31-41 to come out on top in the boys’ second race of the day.

Junior Nelson Betwele (20:43.70) was fifth and was joined in the Top 10 by sophomores Henok Gugssa (20:54.10) in seventh and Henok Lukas (21:44.60) in 10th. Junior Minase Wagga (21:51.90) was 11th to seal the win.

Tucker senior Yesahk Ergano (20:07.30) took second. He was joined in the Top 10 by sophomore teammates Abedelemeji Kerebo om eighth and Yordanos Ephram (21:04.80) in ninth.

Third place Southwest DeKalb (62) had seniors Jackson Taylor (20:08.10) in third and Calvin Mosley (20:26.90) in fourth.

Towers’ Emmanuel Clement (20:50.50) was sixth to round out the Top 10.

Martin Luther King Jr. Darian Wragg (21:15.40) picked up his second win of the season in leading a Lions sweep of the Top 6 spots in the boys first race at Arabia Mountain on Tuesday to push the Lions to their second consecutive race victory 15-49 over Lithonia.

He was followed in order by seniors Zai Anderson-Brown (21:32.10), Christian Boyd, (22:13.90), Jamari Hopkins (22:15.00), Kingsley Harris (23:03.60) and junior Mekhi Keith (23:51.00).

Lithonia senior Vladell Rahmes (24:12.40) led the Bulldogs to their second place finish by taking seventh overall in the individual standings.

Host Arabia Mountain had a pair of seniors in the Top 10 in Joshua Brooks (24:49.50) in eighth and Richard Gladney (24:49.80) in ninth.

Tapestry Charter sophomore Caleb Stapel-Wax (25:24.70) grabbed the last Top 10 spot.

The Lady Lions swept the Top 5 spots in the girls’ opening race of the day and was the only team to score.

Senior Aaliyah Peterson (27:30.10) led the way followed by sophomore Demetria Lind (28:24.50), juniors Jasmine Paige (29:28.90) and Star Grier-Rower (30:43.70) and senior Allison Walker (31:11.00).

Stephenson sophomore Tamia Hernton (31:58.60) was sixth followed by Arabia Mountain’s junior Samaria Robinson (34:55.50) and freshman Candace Taylor (35:01.70) and Lithonia junior Kaylyn Harper (35:28.80) finished ninth.

Teams move back to the Druid Hills Middle School course on Tuesday (Sept. 2) with two varsity races and a junior varsity race. The first varsity race is slated for a 5:15 pm start followed by the JV at 5:55 pm and the second varsity race at 6:25 pm.
