The Bethune Lions open the defense of their 2018 Trail to the Title middle school championship as the football season gets underway on Saturday.

The first step to the Trail to the Title DCSD Middle School Championship begins on Saturday as the 19 DCSD middle schools and Renfroe of Decatur open their 2019 seasons.

Bethune is the defending champion heading into the season and opens with a tough test right off the bat as they face Champion at 10:00 am in the first of three games at Hallford Stadium. Stephenson against Cedar Grove (11:30 am) and Salem taking on Chapel Hill (1:00 pm) follow the opener.

Bethune defeated Tucker 33-6 to win for the first time in four trips to the title game. It was Tucker’s sixth consecutive trip to the finals and the Tigers were the defending champs.

Trail to the Title runner-up Tucker hosts Miller Grove (11:30 am) in the second game of a doubleheader at Adams Stadium. Druid Hills and Henderson (10:00 am) open the day at Adams.

Avondale Stadium is playing host to a tripleheader as Stone Mountain and Freedom open the day at 10:00 am. Columbia and Peachtree follow at 11:30 pm with Redan and McNair rounding out the calendar at 1:00 pm.

There is only one game at North DeKalb as Sequoyah hosts Lithonia in a 10:00 am contest.
