The 2019 high school football season in DeKalb County gets off to an early start with DeKalb rivals Redan Raiders and Miller Grove Wolverines opening the season on Thursday at 7:30 pm at Hallford Stadium.

Miller Grove won an 18-12 thriller a year ago to even the series at 2-2-1. Redan had won the last meeting (2011) 28-21. Rahman Sparks will debut his first Raiders squad against the Wolverines’ Lee Hannah who begins his second season leading Miller Grove. The Wolverines made the playoffs in his first season.

The lights go on at Clayton County’s Southern Crescent Stadium on Thursday as well as the Lithonia Bulldogs travel to take on Forest Park in non-region action.

Twelve DeKalb teams open their seasons on Friday, August 23, eight of which are playing in DeKalb County stadiums to get the year underway.

Adams Stadium plays host to a Friday night doubleheader as Cross Keys hosts Providence Christian at 5:15 followed by a collision between DeKalb foes Clarkston and Druid Hills at approximately 8:00 pm.

Other Friday home games include McNair vs. Towers at Avondale (7:30 pm), Woodland-Stockbridge vs. Southwest DeKalb at Godfrey Stadium (7:30 pm) and No. 9 ranked Stephenson hosting Columbia at 8:00 pm at Hallford Stadium.

The Tucker Tigers represent DeKalb County in the Corky Kell Classic once again as they take on Archer at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville on Friday at 5:30 pm.

In other Friday away games, Chamblee travels to Forsyth Central (7:30), Lakeside treks to Decatur (7:30 pm) and Stone Mountain goes on the road to Pickens County (7:30 pm).

There will be two DeKalb teams in action on Saturday, August 24. Arabia Mountain is on tap first as the Rams travel to Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta to take on Carver-Atlanta at 3:00 pm.

Defending Class 3A champion Cedar Grove and new head coach Miguel Patrick play host to Hapeville Charter in an 8:00 pm contest at Godfrey Stadium.
