The No. 2 ranked Lakeside Vikings were pushed to the final wire by Peachtree Ridge in a 1-0 Class 7A first round boys’ soccer playoff victory at Adams Stadium on Wednesday night.

Lakeside (15-1-3) missed on several opportunities and goalie Andrew Seybolt came up with some big saves to give the Vikings an opportunity for the victory.

The game went almost 58 minutes without a score as neither team could solve the defense thrown at them or by big saves by both goalies.

Seybolt came up big at the 22:35 mark of the second half gobbling up a point blank shot in front of the net by Peachtree Ridge and again at the 18:19 mark to keep the score at 0-0.

The Vikings got another opportunity as Reid Doering kicked the ball toward the goal and deflection rebounded out to Jerod Spetseris who was able to put the ball in the net behind the Peachtree Ridge goalie for the 1-0 lead with 12:35 to play in the game.

Two minutes late Peachtree Ridge missed high on a shot to tie and Lakeside was able to keep the ball up the field and run out the clock to get pick up the Vikings’ first playoff win since the 2016 season.

Lakeside will host Forsyth Central, a 2-1 winner over Archer, on Thursday, May 2. Site and time to be announced.

Class 5A
The No. 2 ranked Cross Keys Indians (15-2-0) dispatched of Cedar Shoals (4-10-1) 7-1 at North DeKalb Stadium on Wednesday to advance to the second round.

Cross Keys will host Lithia Springs, a 6-3 winner over Kell, on May 2 with site and time to be determined.

The No. 7 Clarkston Angoras (13-4-1) knocked off Loganville (7-9-1) 11-1 at Hallford Stadium on Wednesday. The Angoras will get to host Rome which upset Decatur 2-0 also on May 2.

Chamblee (9-9-1) dropped a tough 2-1 match to No. 8 Clarke Central (16-2-1) to drop out of the playoffs along with Arabia Mountain (7-8-1) which fell 6-0 to No. 4 Johnson-Gainesville (15-2-1).

Class 3A
The Stone Mountain Pirates had their season come to an end with a hard-fought 2-0 loss to No. 7 ranked Jefferson (15-2-0).
