The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats won their opening round Class 6A playoff game for the second consecutive year with a 3-0 victory over Creekview in a battle of Top 10 ranked girls’ soccer teams at North DeKalb Stadium on Thursday night.

Creekview had knocked the Lady Wildcats out in the second round a year ago via penalty kicks in another hard fought game between the two programs.

The No. 6 ranked Lady Wildcats found the going a bit tough throughout most of the first half against a packed in defense by No. 8 ranked Creekview.

It took almost 38 minutes for Dunwoody to get on the scoreboard as the two teams played tough defense throughout the first half. Dunwoody’s Julia Gild raced down the middle of the field after a pass from Hannah Snyder and hit a nice shot across the front of the goal and into the opposite corner for the opening tally of the game with 2:02 left in the first half.

Dunwoody needed just 3:03 minutes into the second half to up their advantage to 2-0 on a shot by Lily Garrigan to make it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Wildcats (12-4-0).

The third and final goal of the night came with 8:07 to play as Sophia Megathlin scored for the final of 3-0.

Dunwoody moves on to face Dacula which defeated Douglas County 9-0 to move into the Sweet 16.

In Class 4A girls’ play tonight, the Druid Hills Lady Red Devils (10-7-0) fell in a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime decision to Northside-Columbus (14-4-0).
