Field Events concluded on Saturday along with the track preliminaries in the 2019 DCSD Track and Field Championships. Finals are set for Monday beginning at 5:30 pm at Godfrey Stadium.
The field events are finished and teams head to the track for the finals on Monday at 5:30 pm at Godfrey Stadium with Dunwoody (girls) and Martin Luther King Jr. (boys) holding leads.7
Dunwoody holds a slim lead of 49.33 to 48 over two-time defending champion Miller Grove with Arabia Mountain in third with 26.66 points Cedar Grove in fourth with 26 after Saturday’s competition.
Dunwoody sophomore Janae Profitt swept the discus and shot put titles to set the pace for the Lady Wildcats. Profitt won the shot put with a new meet record of 41’-11.00” breaking the record set of 41’04.00” set in 1994 by Columbia’s Lesheal Johnson and tied by Southwest DeKalb’s Kenya Wheeler in 2013.
Miller Grove picked up three gold medals in the first day of competition led by senior Emoni Coleman who became a four-time champion in the 1600m run with a time of 5:20.49.
Kayla Hunt of Miller Grove won the tiebreaker with two-time defending high jump champ Patra Williams of Arabia Mountain with her first attempt at 5’-02.00” in the event.
A third gold medal came the way of Miller Grove as Rayunek Tyler-Thompson won the long jump with a leap of 17’-07.00”.
Other girls’ winners on Saturday were Clara Silvestri of Chamblee in the pole vault (8”-08.00”) and Stephenson’s Jayla Hernton in the triple jump (37’-10.50”).
Martin Luther King Jr. holds a 24-point lead (51-27) over Arabia Mountain in the boys’ meet with Tucker (23.50) in third, Dunwoody (23.00) in fourth and defending champion Southwest DeKalb in fifth (21).
The Lions picked up three gold medals on the first day led by Keion Cush’s sweep of the discus (140’-06.00”) and shot put (47’-02.00”). TaQuan McKenzie picked up the Lions’ third medal with his win in the high jump (6”-02.00”).
Arabia Mountain’s day got a boost from Kerrell Hurt Jr.’s win in the triple jump (44’-07.00”).
Other winners included Carter Rathur of Druid Hills in the 3200m run (9:51.74), Tommy Wright of Southwest DeKalb in the long jump (23’-01.75”) and Dunwoody freshman Alon Rogow in the pole vault (13’-04.00”).
