DCSD Middle School Basketball season in final week of regular season play. The 2019 County Championships begin next Wednesday (Jan. 30).

The final week of the DCSD Middle School Basketball season begins tonight (Wednesday) and the week has some key region games that will decide seeding for the Middle School Basketball County Championships beginning on Wednesday, January 20.

The Region 1 girls’ race for the top seed is still up for grabs depending on the outcome of Saturday’s game with current leader Henderson (9-2, 7-0) traveling to Tucker (8-3, 6-1). A win by Henderson locks up the No. 1 seed for the Cougars, but a win by the Lady Tigers would knot the standings.

Champion (11-1, 5-1) and Stephenson (10-1, 5-1) have split their season series and their out of region games this week could decide the No. 1 spot heading into the playoffs.

Salem (11-1, 7-1) sits atop the Region 3 girls’ standings just ahead of Lithonia (10-1, 6-1). Salem has the edge with just one game remaining while Lithonia has to take on Region 3 foe Redan (6-6, 2-5) on Wednesday to keep pace while also playing Bethune to wind up the season on Saturday. Salem faces Region 4 leader McNair (8-4, 7-1) tonight in its final regular season game.

McNair has the Region 4 top seed wrapped up with a 7-1 record, but Columbia (7-4, 5-2) hosts defending county champion Chapel Hill (5-6, 5-2) tonight in a game to decide the No. 2 seed.

In boys’ play, Tucker (9-2, 7-0) has wrapped up the Region 1 top spot ahead of Henderson (6-5, 5-2).

Stephenson (11-0, 6-0) clinched the Region 2 No. 1 seed with a thrilling 41-40 overtime win against Druid Hills (8-3, 3-3). Druid Hills is tied with Champion (7-5, 3-3) for second, but a win in one of its final two games would give the Dragons a better overall record to claim the second spot.

Salem (11-1, 8-0) has also wrapped up a No. 1 seed leading the Region 3 standings. Redan (7-5, 4-3) and Miller Grove (5-6, 4-3) can clinch the No. 2 spot with a win over Lithonia (2-9, 2-5) tonight, but a loss would open the door for Miller Grove if the Wolverines defeat Freedom (0-11, 0-7) tonight.

McNair (9-2, 6-2) currently sits atop the Region 4 leaderboard just ahead of Cedar Grove (10-2, 5-2). The two teams split the regular season series. A home victory by Cedar Grove over Bethune (4-7, 3-4) tonight would give Cedar Grove the No. 1 seed via a better overall record.
