Seven middle school basketball teams headed into third week of season undefeated.

The 2019 DCSD middle school basketball season gets back underway tonight (Wed., 11/28) following the holiday break with seven teams sporting unblemished records.

Boys’ play features Region 2 leader Stephenson at 3-0 overall (2-0 in region) and Region 4 leader Cedar Grove at 3-0 (1-0 in region) along with Region 2’s Druid Hills at 3-0 (0-0 in region). Seven boys’ teams are sitting at 2-1 including Region 3 co-leaders Redan (2-1, 1-0) and Salem (2-1, 1-0) along with Region 1 leader Henderson (2-1, 1-0).

Four girls’ teams enter the night’s action with 3-0 marks including Region 1 co-leader Henderson (3-0, 1-0), Region 2 leader Stephenson (3-0, 2-0) and Region 3 co-leaders Miller Grove (3-0, 1-0) and Lithonia (3-0, 1-0). Stephenson and Henderson lock up at Stephenson with one coming out still undefeated.

Girls
Columbia 43, Chapel Hill 31
The Columbia Lady Eagles defense was a big key in a Region 4 43-31 win over the defending girls’ champs Chapel Hill Lady Panthers. The defense forced 10 turnovers that led to baskets in the win. Makayla Holder benefitted from the tough defense scoring 19 points and Kamri Gilbert stepped up with 14.

Freedom 37, Bethune 12
Armani Joyner had a game high 13 points and blocked 3 shots as the Freedom Lady Rams picked up their first win of the season 37-12 over the Bethune Lady Lions. Jamiyah Jenkins added 7 points and Robyn Ward had 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in the game.

Henderson 39, Chamblee 16
Henderson improved to 3-0 on the season winning its Region 1 opener 39-16 over the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs. Adia Bouldin scored 14 points and Sierra Burns added 10 points in the win. Trinity Walls had 5 points to lead Chamblee.

Lithonia 33, Salem 22
The Lithonia Lady Bulldogs upended the Salem Lady Lions 33-22 behind a break-out game of 15 points from Alika Daugherty. Lithonia improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in Region 3 while Salem fell to 2-1 and 0-1.

Miller Grove 37, Cedar Grove 8
Jaylen Clark hit the net for 16 points to lead the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines to a 37-8 win over the Cedar Grove Lady Saints. Lindsey Myles added 12 for Miller Grove as the Lady Wolverines improved to 3-0 on the season.

Tucker 48, Druid Hills 32
The Tucker Lady Tigers improved to 2-1 on the season with a 48-32 win over the Druid Hills Lady Dragons. The Tucker victory was fueled by a dominating performance by Malaya Jones who scored 33 points while hitting 7 three-pointers in the game.

Boys
Cedar Grove 37, Miller Grove 31
Jaylen Adside scored 14 points and dished out four assists to lead the Cedar Grove Saints to a 37-31 non-region win over the Miller Grove Wolverines. Jamar Graham added 9 points and 6 rebounds and Caleb Taylor hit for 8 more as the Saints improved to 3-0 on the season.

Druid Hills 33, Tucker 25
The Druid Hills Dragons improved to 3-0 on the season with a 33-25 win over the Tucker Tigers. Josiah Lawson led the way with 10 points and 7 rebounds while Idan Azani added 10 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Joqavious Boswell chipped in 9 points in the win.

Henderson 32, Chamblee 24
Ethan Sams hit double figures with 10 points and Sebastian Reed was right behind with 9 points to lead the Henderson Cougars to a Region 1 32-24 win over the Chamblee Bulldogs.

Stephenson 47, Stone Mountain 20
The Stephenson Jaguars improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in Region 2 action with a 47-20 win over the Stone Mountain Pirates (0-3, 0-1). Tahj Evans scored 13 points to lead the Jaguars in the win.

Druid Hills 51, Henderson 24
Josiah Lawson led the Druid Hills Dragons to their second consecutive victory to start season with 14 points and 12 rebounds against the Henderson Cougars. Idan Azani also hit for 14 points and David Sledge added 6 points and 5 steals. Henderson was led by Ethan Sams and AJ Holman with 6 points each.

Cedar Grove 44, Chapel Hill 30
Alvin Williams hit for a game-high 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cedar Grove Saints to a 44-30 win over the Chapel Hill Panthers. Caleb Taylor added 12 points and 5 assists and AJ Green chipped 10 points with 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Stephenson 48, Champion 25
Tahj Evans hit for 15 points and Christian King added 14 in the Stephenson Jaguars’ 48-25 win over the Champion Chargers.

Girls
Columbia 47, Freedom 4
Jakiah Slaughter hit for 19 points to lead the Columbia Lady Eagles to a 47-4 win over the Freedom Lady Rams. Makayla Holder added 15 for Columbia (1-1) and Kamri Gilbert 9. Gilbert and Daiyah Ruger played tough defense that led to 25 turnovers.

Henderson 39, Druid Hills 12
The Henderson Lady Cougars got a game-high 21 points from Adia Bouldin on the way to a 39-12 win over the Druid Hills Lady Dragons. Lelia Mejil added 6 points in the win. K. Fraizer hit for 6 points to lead Druid Hills.

Lithonia 27, McNair 17
The Lithonia Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 on the season with a 27-17 win over the McNair Lady Mustangs (1-1). Alike Daugherty had 10 points and 8 steals to go with 8 points from Laila Williams in the win.

Miller Grove 32, Redan 17
Jaylen Clark hit for a game-high 19 points to lead the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines (2-0, 1-0) to a 32-17 Region 3 win over the Redan Lady Raiders (1-1, 0-1). Lindsey Myles added 9 points for Miller Grove in the win.

Salem 52, Bethune 4
Nia Anderson scored 19 points to lead the Salem Lady Lions to a 52-4 win over the Bethune Lady Lions.

Stephenson 23, Champion 16
The Stephenson Lady Jaguars got 14 points from Sabrina Russell as they defeated the Champion Lady Chargers 23-16.

Tucker 29, Sequoyah 4
Natalia Gooden put together a solid performance as her Sequoyah team fell 29-4 to Tucker. Gooden hit for all four points, collected 12 rebounds and blocked 7 shots.
