Chamblee looking for first win in the Golden Spike game against Dunwoody.

North DeKalb Stadium is once again the site for the Battle of the Golden Spike with the Chamblee Bulldogs hosting the Dunwoody Wildcats in the fifth annual renewal at 7:30 pm on Friday.

Dunwoody has raised the Golden Spike in victory all four of the previous Battles of the Golden Spike which dates back to 2014, including a 16-0 victory a year ago. The Wildcat victories include 19-14 in 2014, 3-0 in 2015 and 43-6 in 2016.

The Golden Spike trophy is representative of the railroad which connected the two towns.

The Wildcats now lead the overall series between the two schools 11-9 with the four consecutive victories in the series. Chamblee had won 9 of the first 16 meetings as they head into the 21st edition of the rivalry.

Both teams are looking for their first win in 2018 with Chamblee sitting at 0-2 and Dunwoody at 0-1 on the season.

Chamblee has dropped decisions to Forsyth Central (42-7) and Lowndes County (62-0) in a tough two game stretch of road games to open the season. Coach Curtis Mattair enters the Gold Spike game with a 0-2 record in the series.

Dunwoody was also on the road last week against DeKalb rival St. Pius X and fell 45-21 in the season opener for the Wildcats. Coach Mike Nash is 3-0 in the Golden Spike series and versus Chamblee overall.

Lithonia (2-0) vs. Stone Mountain (0-2)
The Lithonia Bulldogs and Stone Mountain Pirates renew their high school football series for the 40th time as they face off in an 8:00 pm kickoff at Adams Stadium on Friday night.

Lithonia leads the series 24-14-1 between the two towns that are connected by a road named for the two, Stone Mountain-Lithonia Road.

This is the first meeting since 2015 between the DeKalb rivals. The Bulldogs won that last meeting 40-13.

Lithonia is led by running back Shawn Collins who has rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown in each of the first two games. Lithonia owns wins over Forest Park (26-24) and Redan (24-8).

The Pirates are led by quarterback Shaheim Bailey who triggers the offense. Stone Mountain has dropped both of its first two games against Pickens County and Social Circle.

The Rams (1-1) are coming off a tough road loss to Stockbridge (34-22) after winning their season opener 28-14 over Carver-Atlanta. They are led by quarterback Bryson Williams for a combined 472 yards (56-32-0, 4, TDs) in the first two games.

Martin Luther King could make it an aerial battle as quarterback Jacobi Haynes threw for 236 yards and a touchdown in a hard fought 28-19 loss at Villa Rica last week in the Lions’ season opener.

Cedar Grove (2-0) vs. Columbia (1-1)
The Class 3A No. 2 ranked Cedar Grove Saints take on hosts Columbia Eagles in an 8:00 pm contest at Godfrey Stadium on Friday in the 18th meeting between the two DeKalb schools.

Seniors Jadon Haselwood and Rashad Chaney helped lead the Saints to big win. Cedar Grove also defeated Summerville (SC) in another out of state road game in their season opener.

Columbia bounced back from a 39-12 loss to Stephenson in the season opener with a 53-0 shutout of Towers a week ago. The Eagles rushed and pass for over 300 yards in the victory.
