The first night of region action had nine DCSD basketball teams in action on Monday with the Stone Mountain and Cedar Grove girls advancing in the Region 5-3A Tournament and clinching Class 3A state playoff berths.

The Stone Mountain Lady Pirates (10-11) knocked DeKalb foe Towers (6-13) out of state playoff contention with a 49-25 win to open Region 5-3A girls’ play at Westminster. The Lady Pirates earned their first trip to the state playoff since a first round 78-74 loss to Cartersville in 2011 under Coach Stanley Clark.

Coach Shenetria Wyche has her team in the state playoffs for the second consecutive season following their 66-13 win over rival McNair (3-16) on Monday. The Saints have won eight in a row.

Redan (0-15) was knocked out of the postseason with a 70-9 loss to Top 10 ranked Lovett.

The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats moved within a win of a state playoff berth by holding off Chattahoochee 48-44 in Region 7-6A play at Northview on Monday. Dunwoody will take on No. 3 seeded Pope on Wednesday with a state tournament berth on the line. The Wildcats (4-21), a surprise state tournament team a year ago, saw its season come to an end with a 64-46 loss to Johns Creek in boys’ region play.

The Druid Hills Lady Red Devils (9-15) dropped a 55-38 decision to North Clayton to end their season at Luella in Region 4-4A girls’ play on Monday. In Region 4-6A boys’ action on Monday, the Martin Luther King Jr. Lions (4-22) wrapped up their season with a tough 66-64 loss to Forest Park.

Today’s (Tuesday) region action features 13 games and 17 DCSD teams playing to advance.
