The 5-0 Henderson Cougars lead a group of five middle schools with undefeated seasons after three weeks of basketball action.

A thrilling buzzer beating 43-42 win over the Stephenson Jaguars (4-1) has put the Cougars on the road to its five consecutive wins.

S. McKenzie of Stephenson had put the Jaguars up 42-41 as he was fouled on a made layup and added the free throw for an old fashioned three-point play for the lead with four seconds to play.

Henderson called timeout to set up a final play for the win. Out of the timeout the Cougars made a long pass down court to Isaac Terrell who caught the ball at the top of key and dribbled in for the game-winning layup at the buzzer. Desha Rogers-Givens had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals to lead Henderson while Leland Sanders had to point, William Parker added 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.

Henderson (5-0, 2-0) completed the undefeated week with a 44-30 Region 1 victory over Peachtree to tie Tucker (3-2, 2-0) for the region lead. William Paker had 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 steals to lead the way. D.J. Rogers-Givens added 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.

The Lithonia Bulldogs improved to 5-0 on the season with a thrilling 27-26 win over the Chapel Hill Panthers and a 50-16 victory over Freedom in Region 3 action. Lithonia is 2-0 in region play and tied with Redan (3-1, 2-0) atop the region.

In girls’ play Stephenson (5-0, 3-0), Peachtree (5-0, 2-0) and Chapel Hill (5-0, 3-0) kept their seasons unblemished with wins over the past week.

Stephenson sits atop the Region 2 standings after victories of 38-19 over Henderson and 40-6 over Druid Hills. Peachtree ran off wins against Tucker (31-21) and Henderson (36-20). Chapel Hill has not scored less than 42 points in any of its five wins and reeled off wins of 48-8 over Lithonia and 53-18 over McNair.
