Eight middle school basketball teams open season with 3-0 marks.

Three games into the 2017 DCSD middle school basketball season eight teams sit at 3-0 as they go into the Thanksgiving break.

Stephenson and Henderson have both the girls’ and boys’ teams at 3-0 on the year.

The Stephenson Jaguars own a 3-0 mark overall and 2-0 in the region after wins of 37-34 over Champion and 65-12 over Stone Mountain in Region 2 play. Shaun McKenzie had 18 points in the win over Champion.

The Lady Jaguars are also 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the region with wins of 27-24 over Champion and 33-21 over Stone Mountain. The win over Champion broke the two-time defending county champions Lady Chargers 35-game win streak.

Henderson sits atop the Region 1 boys’ standings at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in region play following wins of 41-35 over Druid Hills and 61-38 over defending county champion Chamblee.

Against Druid Hills the Cougars were led by Ben Lang (10 points, 4 rebounds), Malachi Cloud (9 points), Desha Rogers-Givens (6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Isaac Terrell with 7 points. The big win over Chamblee came behind the bit 19 point, 10 rebound performance by Leland Sanders who returned to athletic competition after suffering an injury during football. William Parker added 13 points and Isaac Terrell put up 12 more for the Cougars.

Henderson is also 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the girls’ Region 1 standings with wins of 35-11 over Druid Hills and 45-13 over Chamblee.

Adia Bouldin had 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists against Druid Hills and Sierra Burns added 8 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Burns hit for a game-high 18 points and Bouldin added 16 in the win over Chamblee.

The Peachtree Lady Patriots are 3-0 overall after sweeping Stone Mountain (45-27) and Renfroe (37-34). Molly Kozin hit for a big 17 points in the tight victory over Renfroe. The Patriots (2-1) made it a sweep of Stone Mountain 57-19 as Cameron Jasper hit 6 of 7 treys in scoring 21 points. Renfroe won the boys’ contest 60-30.

Bethune is 3-0 overall in girls’ play and 2-1 in boys’ action after this past week. The Lady Lions defeated Salem 31-25 and Freedom 45-14 to remain undefeated early in the season.

The Lions bounced back from a season opening 36-22 loss to Miller Grove to down Salem 31-26 and Freedom 42-32. Bethune was led in the two wins by Janirian Bonner who had a combined 27 points and 23 rebounds in the two games and Nixon Stewart with a total of 25 points and 9 rebounds.

Lithonia is 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 3 action following a 41-36 win over Salem last Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated McNair 43-14 earlier in the week.

The Chapel Hill Lady Panthers improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 4 girls’ action with a pair of region wins last week. Chapel Hill ran away to wins of 42-26 over Cedar Grove and 62-5 over Columbia.
