DCSD Middle School Football season has been dominated by defenses.

The Middle School football season moved into region play last weekend and defense remains dominant with five more shutouts and three games with just one touchdown allowed.

The Middle School defenses have put up 18 shutouts 28 games and allowed just one score in 9 more just three weeks into the season.

Miller Grove 8, Redan 6
Miller Grove picked up a region victory with a hard fought 8-6 win over Redan at Avondale Stadium last Saturday. The Wolverines (2-1, 1-0) overcame a 4-carry, 90-yard rushing performance by Redan’s Kareem Hassin to get the win over the Raiders (1-1-1, 0-1).

Lithonia 16, Salem 8
Styland Scott totaled 204 yards in kick returns, two for touchdowns, to lead the Lithonia Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) to a 16-8 victory over Salem. The Lions (1-1-1, 0-1) had a heartbreaking loss led by Jordan King’s touchdown run and an interception by Karl Perkins Jr. without giving up a defensive touchdown.

Chapel Hill 14, McNair 0
Sadir Ryan threw a 40-yard touchdown pass and ran for another score to lead Chapel Hill (1-2, 1-0) to a 14-0 Region 4 victory over McNair (1-2, 0-1) at Godfrey Stadium. McNair settled in on defense after the early scores behind the play of Jeremiah Johnson and Clifton Arnold to keep the Colts in the game.

Stone Mountain 8, Druid Hills 0 (OT)
The Stone Mountain Pirates (2-1, 1-0) picked up a tough Region 2 victory over the Druid Hills Dragons (2-1, 0-1) with an 8-0 overtime victory. Hakeem Thorton rushed for a 10-yard touchdown for the game winner in overtime for the Pirates and Brandon James added a two-point conversion. Ronel Thomas led the Stone Mountain defense with 10 tackles (2 for loss, 1 sack) and Brandon James had 7 tackles (2 sacks)Druid Hills quarterback Darrious Benton rushed for 67 yards and safety Khilal Williams had an interception in a strong defensive performance.

Peachtree 6, Henderson 0
The Peachtree Patriots (1-2, 1-0) scored on a 67-yard run by Jameel Avery to knock off the Henderson Cougars (0-3, 0-1) 6-0 in a Region 1 contest at Adams Stadium.

Cedar Grove 18, Columbia 0
The Cedar Grove Saints (1-1-1, 1-0) got three touchdown passes from Kashawn Britt on the way to an 18-0 Region 4 shutout victory over the Columbia Eagles (1-2, 0-1) at Godfrey Stadium on Friday. Terrance Williams (45 yards), Mohamed Sanoe (40 yards) and Mazin Murray (5 yards) were the beneficiaries of the Britt passes for scores. Murray and Jabari Driskell both had interceptions to lead the Saints’ defense.

Stephenson 22, Renfroe 7
Stephenson (2-1, 1-0) used four turnovers by Renfroe (1-1-1, 0-1) to pick up a 22-7 Region 2 victory at Decatur last Saturday. Renfroe had a 40-yard touchdown pass from Harrison Hannah to Marquis Hood for the Bulldogs’ only score. Luke Enfinger hit his first extra point try of the season.

Tucker 61, Sequoyah 0
Latavious Johnson scored three touchdowns to lead the Tucker Tigers (3-0, 1-0) to a Region 1 win over Sequoyah (0-3, 0-1) at Adams Stadium on Saturday. Johnson rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt 35 yards for another score. Cameron Jackson had 6 tackles, including three sacks, to lead the Tigers’ defense.
