boys’ and girls’ No. 1 and 2 seeds advanced to the championship games of the Region 5-5A basketball tournament with wins at Miller Grove on Friday night.

The first No. 2 seed to advance was the Arabia Mountain Lady Rams (19-4) with a thrilling down to the last shot 55-53 overtime victory against No. 3 seed Columbia (14-7).

Marissa Mills hit a free throw with 14.6 seconds to play to give the Rams a 47-44 lead. Columbia’s Tierra Smith hit her third three-pointer of the game and second of the fourth quarter with six seconds to play to send the game into overtime.

Alina Shoemake hit a three with 1:37 to play in overtime to give Arabia a 54-41 lead and added a free throw with 54 seconds remaining for a 55-51 advantage.

Columbia post player Deidre Harris got inside for a layup with 29 seconds to play to pull the Eagles within 55-53. A pair of misses at the line for Arabia gave Columbia a last chance at the tie or win. A three-pointer was just long off the rim and a rebound attempt was blocked as the clock ran out.

Iyanna McMillian hit for 16 points to lead four Lady Rams in double figures including Kennedi Manning with 13 and Alina Shoemake and Marissa Mills with 11 points each. Shontrice Austin had 16 points for Columbia and Deidre Harris added 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Boys’ No. 2 seed Columbia (20-6) clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter and used an 11-0 run to pull away to a 47-34 win over No. 3 seed Southwest DeKalb (15-12).

The two teams would go scoreless for almost half the fourth quarter, before Southwest DeKalb’s Jalen Lee hit a basket to close the gap to 33-32, but it would be the last basket for the next four minutes for the Panthers.

Kevon Eskridge hit a three-pointer to start the 11-0 run for the Eagles. Terrance Boykin would get an offensive put back and Jalen Cobb got a slam on a pass from Kenton Eskridge as the Eagles began to pull away. Kevon Eskridge would add another free throw and Reyhan Cobb hit a pair to make it 43-32 with 38 seconds to play.

Kadarius Johnson scored for the Panthers to break the run, but Columbia would finish with two free throws by Kenton Eskridge and a dunk by Boykin to close out the win.

Reyhan Cobb hit for 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Columbia while Boykin finished with 10 points. Mandarius Dickerson hit for a game-high 14 to lead the Panthers.

Ruona Uwusiaba had a 15 point/15 rebound double-double to lead No. 1 seed Southwest DeKalb (22-4) to a 66-21 win over Chamblee (11-11) to advance to the title game.

Jada Walton hit for seven points in the first quarter and Uwusiaba added five of her 15 as the Lady Panthers jumped ahead 21-6 by the end of the period.

Walton who finished with 14 points hit for seven more in the second quarter, including a three to open the period, as Southwest DeKalb took a 41-10 lead into the half over the shorthanded Lady Bulldogs (2 flu, 1 ankle injury).

Miller Grove, No. 1 boys’ seed, got 19 points from Tae Hardy (all in the first 3 quarters) as the Wolverines cruised to 61-39 win over Lithonia on the way to the championship game against Columbia.

Hardy had a three, a steal and dunk and a tip-in underneath in the decisive third quarter that put the Wolverines up 53-32 with one quarter to play.

Kadarius Harper’s three with 4:10 to play had Miller Grove up 61-33 as the Wolverines cruised the rest of the way.

Jermon Clark added a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds for Miller Grove to go with 10 points from Maurice Harvey. Brison Rockcliffe hit for 11 points to lead Lithonia.

Region 7-6A
Dunwoody (13-14) continued its run in the Region 7-6A boys’ tournament by knocking of previously 24-2 Alpharetta 70-59 to advance to the championship game while securing a home game for next week’s Class 6A state playoffs.

Ty Lilly hit for 20 points to lead the Wildcats as Will Benston and Jeff Powell added 11 points each in the win. Dunwoody takes on Pope (23-4) at 7:00 pm on Saturday for the title.

The Wildcats have won four consecutive games and their 14 losses include 9 by six or less points, six of which were 3 points or less.

Region 4-6A
The Tucker Lady Tigers and Stephenson Jaguars moved to the championship games of the Region 4-6A Tournament with wins in the semifinals on Friday.

The No. 2 seeded Tucker Lady Tigers (20-6) defeated Stephenson (18-9) 68-51 to advance to the title game at 5:30 pm against No. 1 seed Lovejoy (23-3), a 38-33 winners over Jonesboro. Stephenson will face Jonesboro (13-14) at 2:30 pm in the consolation game.

The Jaguars (17-9) slipped by the host Tucker Tigers (16-10) 62-58 to reach the region finals at 7:00 pm on Saturday against Jonesboro (22-4), a 79-46 winner over Forest Park. Tucker and Forest Park match up at 4:00 pm in the boys’ consolation game.

Region 4-4A
The Druid Hills Red Devils run in the Region 4-4A came to a halt with a tough 68-65 loss to Henry County on Friday night at Woodward Academy.

Druid Hills (12-15) led 65-63 with about two and a half minutes to play, but could not hold on as Henry County rallied to take a 68-65 lead. The Red Devils got one last shot at three to tie the game with 1.5 seconds to play, but came up short.

Region 5-3A
The Redan Lady Raiders (19-6) rolled past Pace Academy (13-11) 52-32 to capture the Region 5-3A girls’ championship on their home floor on Friday night.

Pace Academy (22-8) pulled away in the final two minutes to take a 64-54 win over the Cedar Grove Saints (16-6) in the boys’ championship.

The Cedar Grove Lady Saints (15-5) dropped a heartbreaking 70-65 overtime game to Lovett (17-10) to fall to the fourth seed for the Class 3A state tournament next week.
