Games Wednesday night decided the teams to play for the 2017 DCSD Middle School Championships at Cedar Grove Middle School on Saturday.
Defending girls’ titlist from 2016, Champion rolled into the finals for the second consecutive season with a 46-27 victory over Chamblee. The Lady Chargers (16-0) extended their win streak to 33 games and are looking for a second consecutive undefeated season on the hard court.
Miller Grove (15-1) gets the opportunity to knock the defending champions after rebounding from a January loss to Chapel Hill (15-0) with a 35-30 victory to knock the Lady Panthers from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Miller Grove and Champion tip off at 3:30 pm at Cedar Grove to decide the 2017 girls’ title.
Chapel Hill and Chamblee play for third place on Saturday with an 11:00 scheduled tip.
The Lithonia Bulldogs (14-2) moved into the championship finals with a big second half rally to beat Chapel Hill (13-3) 32-28. The Bulldogs held Chapel Hill to just six second half points to claw back into the championship round.
It will be a battle of the Bulldogs in the boys’ championship after the Chamblee Bulldogs (15-1) nipped the Champion Chargers (14-2) 47-45 to advance to the title game. The pair meet at 6:30 pm to who takes home the championship trophy.
The boys’ consolation game is set for 12:30 pm as Champion (14-2) takes on Chapel Hill (13-3) for the third place trophy.
The DCSD JV championships are also being played on Saturday at Cedar Grove Middle. The girls’ game pits Southwest DeKalb (11-1) against Stephenson (11-1) at 2:00 pm to see who takes the crown won by Redan in 2016.
The boys’ game set for 5:00 pm has Lithonia (11-1) trying to knockoff defending champ Miller Grove (11-1).
