Three-time DCSD JV Boys’ Champions — Miller Grove

Lithonia High School and Lithonia Middle School are hosting the first round of the 2017 DeKalb County Junior Varsity Basketball Championships beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday (Jan. 28).

The three-time defending champions Miller Grove Wolverines (9-1) return looking for a fourth consecutive title in the boys’ championship.

Miller Grove, the Region 3 champ, plays host to Region 2 runner-ups Clarkston Angoras (6-4) at 11:30 am at Lithonia Middle School.

Lithonia, which dropped a 44-30 decision to Miller Grove in last year’s title game, returns for another shot at the title after finishing as the Region 2 champion. The Bulldogs (9-1) play host to Region 3 runners-up Chamblee Bulldogs (6-4) at 2:30 pm at Lithonia High School.

The Bulldogs had to win a thrilling 41-40 decision over Stephenson on Wednesday to earn the tournament berth by virtue of two victories over the Jaguars this season.

Region 1 champions Southwest DeKalb Panthers (9-1) play the first boys’ game at Lithonia High as they take on Region 4 runners-up Cedar Grove Saints (6-3) at 11:30 am.

Region 4 champions Arabia Mountain Rams (6-4) play the nightcap at Lithonia Middle with a date against the Region 1 runners-up Tucker Tigers (8-2) at 2:30 pm.

A new champion will be crowned in the girls’ tournament as defending champion Redan came up one-game short of returning to the tournament in 2017.

Stephenson (9-1), the 2016 runner-up to Redan, returns as the Region 3 champion and hosts Region 2 runners-up Lakeside (6-4) Lady Vikings in the 10:00 am game at Lithonia Middle School.

A pair of 8-2 teams face off in the 1:00 pm contest at Lithonia Middle as Region 4 champions Arabia Mountain Lady Rams host the Region 1 runners-up Dunwoody Lady Wildcats.

Region 2 champions Towers Lady Titans (7-3) face off with Region 3 runners-up Martin Luther King Jr. Lady Lions (7-3) in the 10:00 am opener at Lithonia High on Saturday.

The 1:00 pm game at Lithonia High pits Region 1 champions Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers (9-1) against the Region 4 runners-up Cedar Grove Lady Saints (5-4).
